Trials for 3 terrorism suspects delayed again

URBANA — The trials for three Ford County men charged with crimes committed as part of a homegrown terrorist organization, including an attempted bombing of a Champaign women’s health clinic, will be delayed until February.


News-Gazette Media ending publication of St. Joseph Leader, County Star

ST. JOSEPH — Two News-Gazette Media weekly newspapers will be shutting down at the end of the month due to declining revenue and increased costs.

The St. Joseph Leader and The County Star in southern Champaign County will publish their last issues Aug. 30.


Electricity back after Paxton power outage

PAXTON -- More than 3,000 customers were without power near Paxton on Tuesday afternoon, according to Ameren’s online outage map.

The outage in Ford County appears to have started around 3:15 p.m., and power was not expected to be restored until around 5:45 p.m.


Ford County men will be tried on Illinois machine-gun charges first

URBANA — Federal prosecutors in Urbana will try their case against four Ford County men before prosecutors in Minnesota proceed with theirs against three of the men accused of bombing a mosque there, a judge ruled Monday.

Both prosecutors and defense attorneys had asked for a 60-day delay in the Minnesota case.


Bombing suspects plead not guilty

URBANA — After being indicted by a grand jury last week for possession of a machine gun, four Ford County men pleaded not guilty Monday to the charge.


Paxton man involved in fatal crash on I-57 near Thomasboro

THOMASBORO — A Savoy man died Monday morning after losing control of his car on Interstate 57, according to District 10 Illinois State Police.
