Parkland board to discuss replacing chairman

CHAMPAIGN — Parkland College trustees will meet tonight to discuss how to choose a replacement for outgoing chair Tom Bennett.

Bennett, recently sworn in as state representative for the 106th district, has turned in his resignation, which takes effect Thursday.

The Gibson City resident has been on the community college board for 19 years; this is his third year as chair.


Parkland College extends Ramage's contract

CHAMPAIGN — As expected, the Parkland College Board of Trustees on Wednesday extended President Tom Ramage’s contract and gave him a 3.25 percent raise.

The board tapped Ramage, a longtime Parkland employee, to be the college’s president in January 2008. The 3.25 percent raise brings his annual salary to $218,106 and the new contract will expire in 2018.


Ayers, Bennett re-elected to Parkland board

CHAMPAIGN — Longtime Parkland College trustees Tom Bennett and James Ayers have been re-elected to the community college board.

CHAMPAIGN — Two veterans of the Parkland College Board of Trustees will face an opponent come April 9.

All three are competing for two seats on the community college board.


Birkey’s acquires dealership in Henry

RANTOUL — Birkey’s Farm Store has acquired an agricultural equipment dealership in north central Illinois, bringing the company’s total number of stores to 12.

Birkey’s, a Case IH dealer, signed an agreement with brothers Bill Reed, Bob Reed and Jerry Read to acquire Read Bros. Inc. in Henry, a town between Peoria and La Salle-Peru.
