PBL boys cross country places fourth in Cowchip Classic

CHRISMAN — It is, as most coaches call it, unique and fun — but most of all, it is competitive.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda did what many teams in the area did on Saturday as they made the journey to Chrisman for the Cowchip Classic, which features seven flight races for the varsity boys and seven for the varsity girls instead of the traditional two varsity races.

Buckley Dutchmaster hurler Andrew Zenner allowed only four hits in nine innings of work in Buckley’s 2-0 win over the Royal Giants.

PAXTON — The Paxton Swedes know what it is like to win a close one after downing the Champaign Dream 10-9 in the second game of their twinbill last Sunday.

Dutchmasters win in extra innings over Gifford-Flatville in game one, lose game two

GIFFORD — In a 12-inning game, it is not important if you draw first blood, but last blood.

The Buckley Dutchmasters, who had the daunting task of playing the Gifford-Flatville Giflats on Sunday, did just that, winning a 6-3 game that took 12 innings to decide at Franzen Field in Gifford. They also drew first blood in the contest.

Paxton Swedes, Buckley Dutchmasters split EI League doubleheader

PAXTON — In the first game of the doubleheader between the Buckley Dutchmasters and the Paxton Swedes, it was business as usual between the two teams.

As had happened regularly for the past two seasons, Buckley won a 5-0 decision. But, in the second game, the Swedes did something they had not done in two years — beat their archrivals — topping them decisively 9-3.

Paxton Swedes lose two extra-inning games to Gifford-Flatville

GIFFORD — The Paxton Swedes could not have asked more from their pitching over the weekend.

Even though they finished 1-3 over the weekend, they could have just easily been 3-1. Most of the Swedes had to like what they saw, especially from their overworked pitching staff.

Mark Prina, the manager of the team, certainly did.

CHARLESTON — The mascot for the Paxton-Buckley-Loda athletic teams has long been the Panthers.
But, on Saturday, Garrett Bachtold and Jonathan Muller, two PBL track athletes, made like the Official Bird of America, the Bald Eagle, and soared with the Eagles.

GCMS's Delanie Dykes wins IHSA Class 1A state medals in 400-, 800-meter races

CHARLESTON — When asked what was her favorite race, the 800-meter run or the 400-meter dash, Delanie Dykes gave a very indecisive answer.
“I love certain things about them both,” said the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley junior of the races. “I really focused on how I run the 800 this year and that helped me become better at the 400-meter.

PBL boys track and field ties for fifth in Spartan Classic

ST. JOSEPH — If you want a good sign that you might make it to the state finals, or at least do well in the postseason, you need to look no further than the Spartan Classic.
The meet, hosted by the St. Joseph Ogden Spartans, reveals where people stand. If you are Jonathan Muller, you should feel pretty good right now.
