URBANA — The youngest of four Ford County men charged with crimes committed as part of a homegrown terrorist organization, including converting assault rifles into machine guns and committing robberies to finance their operation, has pleaded guilty.


Ford County militia members indicted for Minnesota mosque firebombing

MINNEAPOLIS — A federal grand jury in Minnesota has indicted three Ford County men for civil rights and hate crime violations in connection with the firebombing of a mosque in that state last August.

No court dates had been set in Minnesota, however, for Michael Hari, 47, Michael McWhorter, 29, and Joe Morris, 23, all of Clarence.


Gibson City woman dies in two-vehicle collision

DEWEY — A two-vehicle collision in northwest Champaign County on Tuesday, June 5, claimed the life of a Gibson City woman.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Barbara J. Roth, 58, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision at the intersection of county roads 3200 North and 1100 East at 6:55 p.m.

URBANA — A former Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School student died of injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision early Friday in northwest Champaign.

URBANA — Four Ford County men are in federal custody for possession of a machine gun, a charge intended to hold them while the government seeks additional charges that allegedly link three of them to a mosque bombing in Minnesota and the attempted bombing of a women’s health clinic in Champaign last year.


Trio arrested for robberies in two counties

URBANA — Three men were arrested Wednesday in connection with business robberies in two counties.

Champaign County sheriff’s Lt. Curt Apperson said two of the men were linked to gas station holdups that occurred late last year in Savoy and Urbana and a church break-in in Champaign this week.


Buckley woman charged in theft of $144,500 from employer

URBANA — A Buckley woman who allegedly stole thousands of dollars from a Champaign business where she worked to spend on illegal drugs has been charged with a Class 1 felony.

Kimberly Allen, 35, was arrested last Tuesday in connection with the alleged theft of about $144,500 from Martin One Source, a printing company at 808 Country Fair Drive, C.


Paxton man gets 5 years for stolen vehicle

URBANA — A Paxton man who pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen vehicle was sentenced on Oct. 25 to five years in prison.

Jared Mikules, 26, admitted to Judge Tom Difanis that on July 16, he was in a stolen Jeep at a gas station in Rantoul.


Former Loda resident arrested for burglary in Ogden

OGDEN — A former Loda resident was arrested Wednesday night after sheriff’s deputies found him near a garage in Ogden that had been burgled.

Champaign County Sheriff’s Lt. Curt Apperson said that around 8:30 p.m. deputies were asked to check on a possible burglary in progress in the 100 block of North Market Street in Ogden.


Ludlow woman sentenced to prison in drug case

URBANA — A Ludlow woman who admitted having cocaine intended for sale last fall has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Shellie R. Hardin, 38, pleaded guilty April 25 to possession with intent to deliver cocaine, admitting that on Oct. 31, she had between one and 15 grams of cocaine on her.
