GCMS football defeats Sterling Newman Central Catholic 27-12 in IHSA Class 2A quarterfinal playoff game

STERLING -- An interception return for a touchdown by Austin Spiller with less than two minutes remaining stopped a late Sterling Newman drive and sealed a 27-12 road victory for Gibson-City-Melvin-Sibley on Saturday night in a Class 2A quarterfinal game at Roscoe Eades Stadium.
 
"The defense played outstanding all game," GCMS coach Mike Allen said.

Fisher/GCMS soccer wins 2-0 over Blue Ridge

FISHER — Graham Voelker and Caleb Bleich both scored goals for the victorious Bunnies (17-2-1) in their final regular season match as Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley won 2-0 Wednesday over Blue Ridge.

FISHER -- The Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley soccer team secured the winningest season in program history with a 3-1 nonconference victory at home over Roanoke-Benson/Eureka.

Rantoul/PBL golf places fourth in Illini Prairie Conference Meet

At Rantoul. A 3-over-par 75 from Prairie Central’s Payton Dunahee helped the Hawks to a 314 team score, good for second place in the Illini Prairie Golf Tournament at Brookhill Golf Course.


GCMS boys golf edges Watseka in home meet

At Gibson City. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley edged out Watseka by two strokes in a dual match at Railside Golf Club, thanks to medalist Connor Birky’s 39. Lukas Ball and Jordan Schroeder both shot 41 to lead the Warriors.


GCMS boys golf defeats Monticello 166-194

At Gibson City. Connor Birky tied a school record held most recently by Christopher Witteman with a 3-under par 33 to lead Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley past Monticello 166-194 in a match played at Railside. The victory raised the Falcons’ record to 10-1. Matt Hunt fired a 40 for the Falcons.


GCMS boys golf loses to Prairie Central

At Fairbury. Josh Kilcullen shot a 37 to take co-medalist honors and lead Prairie Central past Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at Indian Creek Golf & Country Club.

GCMS boys golf defeats LeRoy, Ridgeview

At Saybrook. Connor Birky's 36 led all golfers as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley knocked off LeRoy and Ridgeview 174-201-240 at the Indian Springs Golf Course. Matt Hunt fired a 45 and Bryce Boundy scored a 46 for GCMS (9-0). Dan Chastain and Nick Lehr both fired a 49 for the Panthers. Allan Kindred led the Mustangs with a 43.
