IEPA fines Ludlow resident for alleged open dumping of wastes

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has issued an administrative citation for $1,500 to the Brian Gerdes estate and executor Dana Marshall of Ludlow for alleged violations of the Illinois Environmental Protection Act.

The citation was for allegedly open dumping of wastes. Used tires had also allegedly been dumped.

Three taken to hospital following two-vehicle collision near Ludlow

LUDLOW — Three people were taken for treatment after a two-vehicle collision in a rural Ludlow intersection Saturday morning.

Group issues warning of phone fraud

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association is advising all residents that there is currently under way a phone campaign fraudulently using the ISA name in its solicitation. 

The ISA never solicits by phone but does conduct a direct mail campaign throughout the state that’s endorsed by the individual sheriffs across Illinois.

Ludlow Grade School makes plans for Veterans Day assembly

LUDLOW — Ludlow Grade School officials are making plans for the school’s Veterans Day assembly and will have to come up with flags and other equipment that had been used in the event in years past.

Ludlow school board moves ahead with playground improvements

LUDLOW — The possibility for new playground equipment at Ludlow Elementary School is coming more into focus.

At the September meeting, Superintendent Dru Lobmaster reported to the school board about the progress being made to improve the current playground and add on with new equipment.

RANTOUL — The eighth annual I Made A Difference Luke Remington Cancer Walk will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Bill Walsh Field at Rantoul Township High School.

Fire in Rantoul destroys Paxton man's car

RANTOUL — Fire destroyed a Paxton man’s car in Rantoul Friday morning.

Rantoul Fire Chief Ken Waters said Jeremy Bishop, 386 W. Patton St., had just dropped someone off on the former Chanute Air Force Base when his car started knocking.

Flames began coming from beneath the hood.

Firefighters were called at 6:40 a.m.

Rural Dewey resident bilked of $750

DEWEY — A rural Dewey resident was bilked out of $750 possibly through an Internet scam.

Champaign County sheriff’s Lt. Brian Mennenga said between Feb. 17 and 19, a resident of the 3200 block of Greenwod Drive, rural Dewey, said he believes someone gained access to his credit card number when it was used to pay for fixing his computer online.

Four-wheelers stolen in rural Ludlow

LUDLOW — Two four-wheelers were reported stolen from a rural Ludlow residence.

Champaign County Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Mennenga said the owners reported the theft of a Honda four-wheeler valued at $3,000 and a Polaris four-wheeler valued at $2,000.

Ludlow to host candidates forum Thursday

LUDLOW — An open forum for candidates of village government and school board will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the Ludlow Community Center.

Candidates for mayor, village board and school board will be invited to participate.

The forum is open to everyone.
