Loda resident's cash payment to village mysteriously missing

LODA — A Loda resident whose water-bill payment mysteriously came up missing after he left cash in an envelope in the dropbox at Village Hall will not be required to pay the bill.

However, the resident — Luis Lopez — was warned, along with the rest of the public, that the village will require payment in the future if such an incident were to happen again.


Rankin Village Board to begin meeting on Tuesdays

RANKIN — Starting in February, the Rankin Village Board will meet at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month instead of the first Thursday.

The change was made by the board during last Thursday’s meeting.


Loda presented with new contract by water-system operator

LODA — The village board was presented last week with a proposed new contract with ERH Enterprises Inc., the Westville-based company that for several years has been contracted to maintain and operate Loda’s water system.

The contract calls for the monthly fee charged to the village to be raised from $50,000 to $51,000.


Buckley board hears update on old windmill's restoration

BUCKLEY — Buckley Village Board members received an update on the progress of the refurbishing of an old windmill at the Buckley Lake property during their monthly meeting Monday night.

The update came from Buckley resident Les Dippel, a member of the Buckley Sportsman’s Club, which recently began refurbishing the windmill.


Rankin pub's hours extended by village board

RANKIN — The Rankin Village Board last week approved allowing Rankin Rangers Pub and Grub to extend its hours of operation on Sundays.

The bar-and-grill will now be able to open at noon — one hour earlier than it had been — and remain open until midnight — one hour later than it had been.


Loda won't reimburse Weber Fertilizer for tile repairs

LODA — Loda Village Board members voted 5-1 last Wednesday, with Trustee Cathy Tittle in dissent, to not reimburse Weber Fertilizer for repairing a drainage tile by the business.


Prospective Rankin cop to finally complete required training

RANKIN — Village board members learned last Thursday that Roy Beard, who the town had hired to be the village’s police officer, has been guaranteed a spot in the February police academy training course.


Buckley to seek loan for refurbishing of water tower

BUCKLEY — Buckley Village Board members voted unanimously Monday night to allow Larry Johnson, an engineer with Fehr Graham in Champaign, to proceed with financing paperwork for the refurbishing of the town’s water tower and to allow Board President Sheree Stachura to sign the necessary documents.


Rankin board hears report from engineer

RANKIN — During its Oct. 4 meeting, the village board received information from engineer Greg Gustafson concerning the MPTS permit for Rankin’s water and sewer systems.


Mulching of Loda park to be explored next spring

LODA — The village board will explore the possibility of mulching the village park next spring.

Trustee Ronda Breeden told her fellow board members during last Wednesday’s monthly meeting that the park is in need of mulch.
