Loda awards mowing contract

LODA — The Loda Village Board voted unanimously to hire It’s Not Just Mowing to mow village property for $425 per week from April 28 through Oct. 14.

Other bidders were Biggs Lawn Care and Tim’s Lawn Care, the latter of which was awarded the contract last year for $975 per week.

Rankin eyes ways to address dilapidated school building's condition

RANKIN — The Rankin Village Board discussed the progress of getting the town’s old grade school property cleaned up Tuesday night.

The school building on the east side of Illinois 49 has been in disrepair for years and is considered not just an eyesore but a potential safety and health hazard by village officials.

Buckley to seek larger loan for water-tower work

BUCKLEY — Village board members voted unanimously Monday night to approve an ordinance increasing the amount of money the village intends to borrow from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for the refurbishing of its old water tower.

According to the ordinance, instead of a $160,000 loan, the village will seek a $180,000 loan from the IEPA.

Loda village board OKs rezoning of property, building permit

LODA — Village trustees voted unanimously last week to approve the rezoning of residential property to allow for an auto-repair business to operate there.

The village board also voted 6-0 to approve a building permit to allow for the construction of an addition to an existing building on the property for use as an auto-repair shop.

Hastings fills vacancy on Rankin Village Board

RANKIN — The Rankin Village Board swore in Jim Hastings as the board’s newest trustee during its monthly meeting on Feb. 5. Hastings replaced Colin Carswell, who resigned in January.

Whitebird resigns as Buckley trustee

BUCKLEY — After accepting a part-time position last month as the director of the Ford County Emergency Management Agency, Terry Whitebird made it clear that his EMA duties would take priority over his various volunteer roles, including as a trustee for the Buckley Village Board.

BUCKLEY — The village of Buckley may get a break on the repayment of a $160,000 loan it is seeking from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for the refurbishing of its old water tower.

Loda resident's cash payment to village mysteriously missing

LODA — A Loda resident whose water-bill payment mysteriously came up missing after he left cash in an envelope in the dropbox at Village Hall will not be required to pay the bill.

However, the resident — Luis Lopez — was warned, along with the rest of the public, that the village will require payment in the future if such an incident were to happen again.

Rankin Village Board to begin meeting on Tuesdays

RANKIN — Starting in February, the Rankin Village Board will meet at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month instead of the first Thursday.

The change was made by the board during last Thursday’s meeting.

Loda presented with new contract by water-system operator

LODA — The village board was presented last week with a proposed new contract with ERH Enterprises Inc., the Westville-based company that for several years has been contracted to maintain and operate Loda’s water system.

The contract calls for the monthly fee charged to the village to be raised from $50,000 to $51,000.
