PAXTON — An old brick building situated just west of the railroad that runs through Paxton would be turned into an art gallery and residence if Paxton’s zoning board of appeals signs off on the plans.

PAXTON — Billboards will go up later this month displaying some of the graphic design work of two graduating seniors at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School.

Ali Hofer and Amanda Diesburg designed the logo for the newly created Ford County Public Health Department, which plans to place billboards in Paxton and Gibson City in upcoming weeks showing the logo for all to see.

Ribbon winners announced for Ford County art show

PAXTON — Ribbons were awarded to amateur artists displaying their artwork at the annual Ford County Town & Country Amateur Art Show on May 10 at the Paxton Civic Center.

The show featured 28 artists and more than 60 pieces of artwork. Award recipients earned an invitation to attend and display their works at the state show held in September in Champaign.

PBL's Show Choir Spectacular and Senior Art Show set for April 5

PAXTON — The Show Choir Spectacular and Senior Art Show will be held Saturday, April 5, at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School.

The annual event is held to promote the school’s art and music programs, while showcasing the plethora of talented students.

The art show beings at 6 p.m. and will be on display throughout the evening.

Entries sought for Congressional Art Competition

DANVILLE — U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, is accepting entries for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition.

The contest is open to high school students in the 15th Congressional District. Entries are due April 17.

“The winning artwork from my district gets to hang in Washington, D.C., for nearly a year,” Shimkus said. “Thousands of staff and visitors will see the piece.”

Planning under way for Paxton's Fourth of July celebration

PAXTON — Preparations are under way for the Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration at Pells Park.

The chamber’s executive director, Kristina Phelan, is chairing the committee that is organizing the celebration. More volunteers are being sought to assist.

Park district offering classes on water aerobics, art, first aid/CPR

PAXTON — The public is being reminded that water aerobics classes are offered at the Paxton Park District’s swimming pool each Monday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. throughout the summer. Advance registration is not required. There is a $5 fee, payable at the door. Each class lasts about an hour.

Iroquois County Fair set for July 17-22

CRESCENT CITY — The Iroquois County Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17, through Monday, July 22, at the fairgrounds north of Crescent City.

Events on July 17 include the fair queen pageant, featuring five contestants, at 8 p.m. at the grandstand. Other events that day include a flag raising and presentation by 4-H clubs at 7:45 p.m.
