City donates $6,000 toward Paxton Swine 'N' Dine BBQ Contest & Festival

PAXTON — The Paxton City Council voted 6-0 Tuesday night to donate $6,000 toward the eighth annual Paxton Swine ‘N’ Dine BBQ Contest & Festival, an event that is expected to again feature a concert headlined by a nationally known musical act.

The Paxton Carnegie Library’s board of trustees will meet at the library at 5 p.m. March 6 and 7 p.m. April 3, May 1, June 5, July 3, Aug. 7, Sept. 4, Oct. 2, Nov. 6 and Dec. 4.

The Saybrook Sons of the American Legion Squad No. 427 will be hosting spaghetti dinners from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 1, March 1, April 5 and May 3. The dinner includes spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. The meal is all-you-can-eat when dining in. Carryout orders will also be available but are not all-you-can-eat. The cost of the meal is $7.


Free summer concerts at Pells Park in Paxton come to an end

PAXTON — The annual series of summer concerts in the pavilion at Paxton’s Pells Park has come to an end — at least for now.

There will be no Coffee & Conversation event at the American Lutheran Church in Gibson City during January. Coffee & Conversation will resume at the church on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 9 to 10 a.m. The speaker will be Dr. Jim Meyer, a retired veterinarian and airplane pilot from Gibson City.


Rays win prize through Gibson City Rotary Club drawing

GIBSON CITY — Dr. Darrin Ray and Dr. Bernadette Ray of Gibson City won a birthday basket bundle donated by the Heartland Bank in Gibson City through the Gibson City Rotary Club’s weekly drawing on Wednesday, Jan. 2, as part of the club’s 2019 calendar fundraiser.


Gibson City library offering children's programs on Mondays

GIBSON CITY — Starting Monday, Jan. 14, a preschool program for children ages 3-5 will be offered at 10 a.m. each Monday at the Moyer District Library in Gibson City. Also, Story Hour for children in kindergarten through fifth grade will be offered at 3:45 p.m. each Monday after school.

Area county fair queens to compete for statewide crown

SPRINGFIELD — The winners of the county fair queen pageants held last summer in Ford and Iroquois counties will be competing this month in the 60th annual Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs State Queen Pageant.


Paxton holiday house decorating contest winners named

PAXTON — Winners of the annual holiday house-decorating contest sponsored by PRIDE in Paxton have been announced.

Following judging conducted Dec. 13, selected as the top two winners were the Paxton Federated Church, 221 W. Center St., and the home of Larry and Pat Eyers, 805 Cambridge St.
