Trick-or-treating hours set in area communities

Editor’s note: Trick-or-treating hours for several communities, including Elliott, Piper City, Gilman, Danforth, Onarga, Thawville and Cabery, have not been received yet. If anyone knows the hours for those towns, they can email them to will@fordcountyrecord.com or post them to the Ford County Record’s Facebook page.

Gibson City library to host craft show Nov. 10

GIBSON CITY — The Moyer District Library in Gibson City will be hosting a craft show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Vendors need to register in advance at the library. Each space rents for $20. Vendors are limited to homemade food, craft items and direct-sales booths.

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) meets from 9 to 11 a.m. on the third Friday of each month at the Paxton Church of the Nazarene, 302 W. State St., Paxton. Meetings for the 2018-19 year will be held Sept. 21, Oct. 19, Nov. 16, Dec. 21, Jan. 18, Feb. 15, March 15, on a date to be determined in April and on May 17.


Weber-Jones named grand marshal of GCMS homecoming parade

GIBSON CITY — Judy Weber-Jones has been selected to serve as the grand marshal of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School’s 2018 homecoming parade, scheduled for Thursday evening.

Weber-Jones and her husband, Rusty, have been married for 23 years and live in Champaign. She retired in 2016 after having taught for 31 years and coached for 20 years in the GCMS school district. 


Entries, vendors sought for Gibson City's Lighted Christmas Parade

GIBSON CITY — Gibson City’s 24th annual Lighted Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Gibson Area Chamber of Commerce, is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, with the parade’s theme being “An Old-Fashioned Christmas.”

After one-year hiatus, Higgins brothers claim cookoff title

PAXTON — With not having competed in a barbecue cookoff in two years, brothers Joe and Tim Higgins didn’t think they would be named the winners of the seventh annual Paxton Swine ‘N Dine BBQ Contest on Saturday.

The two Gibson City men had done well in past editions of the contest in downtown Paxton, having claimed reserve champion honors in 2015 and third overall in 2014.


Teens can learn to sew at October class at library

GIBSON CITY — Students in middle school and high school can learn to sew during classes scheduled for October at the Moyer District Library in Gibson City.

Participating students will be making T-shirt pillows during the classes, scheduled for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, and Thursday, Oct. 25.


Sibley church selling variety of nuts

SIBLEY — The women of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sibley are selling a variety of nuts and fruits during the next few weeks.

Available for purchase are:

— For $10.50: Pecan halves, pecan pieces, praline pecans, light walnut halves and pieces, whole cashews, mixed nuts (with no peanuts) and milk chocolate-covered cashews
