Harvest Moon nears its goal to stay open

GIBSON CITY — The town’s historic drive-in is nearing its goal to go digital and stay open, thanks to supporters and a “large bank loan.”

As at other drive-ins, and all movie theaters, films will no longer be offered this year on spools; all theaters must change to digital, which is estimated to cost the Harvest Moon at least $120,000.

Drive-in’s donor campaign hits deadline $70,000 short

GIBSON CITY — With an Internet donation campaign hitting its deadline, the picture for Harvest Moon Drive-In is fading — but not completely dark.

Owner Michael Harroun said Friday that the drive has raised $50,000 of the $120,000 required by a Kickstarter online donation campaign, while time just ran out.

Harvest Moon Drive-In seeking help to stay afloat

GIBSON CITY — Mike Harroun, owner of the Harvest Moon Twin Drive In Movie Theatre, doesn’t count himself among the nation’s 1 percent.

“I’m not one of the rich. I’m a working-class guy. I’m Joe the Plumber. Unfortunately, Momma didn’t leave me a silver spoon,” he said.

Gibson City man gets visit from TV show

GIBSON CITY — Ray “Beetle” Leisure kept apologizing to the stars of "American Pickers" as they dug through disorganized piles of antiques in Leisure’s sheds and garages on South Church Street in Gibson City.

But Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz — two of the most skilled pickers in the antique business — apparently didn’t mind the dirty work.

Herb society to meet
URBANA — The C-U Herb Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Meadowbrook Park Pavilion in Urbana for a potluck dinner. People attending are asked to bring their favorite dish.
