Tickets on sale for Taste of Home Cooking School

CHAMPAIGN — The Taste of Home Cooking School, sponsored by The News-Gazette, will take place Thursday, Oct. 29, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Champaign.

Taste of Home cooking specialist Karen Davis will be at the show to share her home cooking tips and tricks while demonstrating step-by-step recipes for the season’s best dishes.


Jeff Shaffer to discuss year-end tax planning at Nov. 19 lunch event

Paxton Swine 'N Dine BBQ Cookoff & Festival set for Sept. 19

PAXTON — The fourth annual Paxton Swine ‘N Dine BBQ Cookoff & Festival is set for Saturday, Sept. 19, in downtown Paxton.

The event will feature barbecue cookoffs in two categories: ribs and chicken.

“We may throw in some special categories if we can,” organizers Dave Mabrey and Ben Grice said in an email to last year’s contestants.


Cissna Park's annual Old Settlers Reunion set for Aug. 13-15

CISSNA PARK — Cissna Park’s 128th annual Old Settlers Reunion — one of the longest-running observances in Illinois — is set for Aug. 13-15 at the village park.

The event has been sponsored by American Legion Post 527 since 1946. Prior to that, going back to 1887, it was sponsored by a variety of community organizations.
