The Jeremy Werner show has a Paxton connection

URBANA — When Jeremy Werner and Austin Burklund first met, it was at a basketball practice at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School.

It was 2009, Werner recalled. It was not long after Werner had started his first full-time sports reporting job — at what was then known as the Paxton Record and is now known as the Ford County Record.


Historical society turns down offer to acquire old church

PAXTON — The Ford County Historical Society met May 18 at the Water Tower Museum in Paxton with 35 members and guests present.


Miller re-elected president of Ford County Fair board

MELVIN — Kirk Miller of Melvin was re-elected president of the Ford County Fair board at its annual meeting on Jan. 14. 

Dallas Meyer of Thawville and Corinne Brown of Paxton were re-elected vice president and secretary/treasurer, respectively.


'Messiah' to feature mix of new, returning favorites

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson Area Music Foundation’s annual performance of Handel’s “Messiah” will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Gibson City Bible Church.


Car show, bean-bag tourney added to Paxton Swine 'N' Dine lineup

PAXTON — The Paxton Swine ‘N’ Dine BBQ Contest & Festival was originally started four years ago with modest intentions.

What organizers did not realize at the time was that it would end up being one of the biggest local events of the year — attracting hundreds, if not thousands, of people, and not just those from Paxton.

PAXTON — Tickets are are available at Hudson Drug & Hallmark Shop in downtown Paxton for the Ford-Iroquois Master Gardeners’ Garden Walk, which is set for Saturday, June 25, from 9  a.m. to 1 p.m.


Golden Deeds award nominees sought

PAXTON — The Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for its annual Golden Deeds Award, which will be presented to both a male and female winner on July 4.

Nominations must be sent to the chamber office by mail no later than June 17.


Canaan Smith, LoCash headline Ford County Fair concert

MELVIN — Country music will again hit the fairgrounds during the Ford County Fair in Melvin as Nashville recording artists Canaan Smith and LoCash headline the annual concert on Friday, June 24.


Love of puppets turns into business for Gibson City man

GIBSON CITY — Mike O’Brien of Gibson City always adored puppets. Now he is taking that love to schools in the Bloomington-Normal area and helping students bring literature to life.


Rural Ludlow woman to appear on 'Wheel of Fortune'

CULVER CITY, Calif. — Brenna Schluter has a word of advice for people who are considering becoming a contestant on “Wheel of Fortune.” They might want to start working out.

“The wheel, it is heavy,” said Schluter, who will be a contestant on the show at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, on WAND. “They give you spinning lessons ahead of the show.”
