MELVIN — This year’s Ford County Fair, running June 23-29 at the fairgrounds in Melvin, may look different than in the past. The fair has added numerous new events to its schedule, while keeping some old favorites, as well.
Draggin’ Main, Paxton’s tradition of cruising Main Street, will make a return to downtown on Friday, June 14, from 5-11 p.m.
Michelle Poll, from Michelle’s Embroidery, is selling ‘Draggin’ Main’ T-shirts this time.
MELVIN — Two Gibson City residents and a Paxton resident are vying for the title of Miss Ford County 2013.
The queen pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 24, in the dance building on the Ford County fairgrounds in Melvin. Contestants are Kirsten Batte of Paxton, Elise Chriss of Gibson City and Alexandra Percy of Gibson City.
BUCKLEY — The Buckley Fire Protection District is holding an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Buckley fire station, located at 102-104 E. Lincoln St.
Townwide garage sales this weekend. Paxton’s annual townwide garage sales are scheduled for Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8. Maps of the sales will be available at both Casey’s General Store locations in Paxton, as well as Village Pantry in Paxton, and at www.paxtongaragesales.com.
CRESCENT CITY — Entries for the 42nd annual Iroquois County Fair Talent Contest are being accepted until June 15.
RANTOUL — The annual Rockin’ and Roddin’ car show, sponsored by Hot Rods & Hooligans Motor Club, is scheduled for 2-10 p.m. Saturday, June 15, in downtown Rantoul.
Loda church sets open house for May 29. The Loda United Methodist Church will host an open house Wednesday, May 29, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Church to host Memorial Day barbeque. The Evangelical Covenant Church in Paxton will host its 31st annual Memorial Day Barbecue on Monday, May 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dinners include either grilled pork chops or chicken, and cole slaw, baked beans, a roll and drink. Carryout orders are available.
