Websites selling counterfeit tickets for Travis Tritt concert

MELVIN — In a news release Tuesday, Ford County Fair officials said they have become aware of several websites selling counterfeit tickets to the fair’s Travis Tritt concert scheduled for Friday, June 29.


Master Gardeners judge planters in downtown Gibson City

GIBSON CITY — Janet Townsend and several other Master Gardeners recently chose first-, second- and third-place winners for the planters planted in downtown Gibson City.

In first place was Teresa McRae at Speakeasy Salon. The second-place winner was Chuck Marx at Anderson Ford. In third place were Jim and Amy Hood at Hood’s Ace Hardware.


Paxton 4th of July celebration's schedule all set

PAXTON — The schedule is set for the Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce’s 35th annual Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration at Pells Park.

Festivities get under way at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, when the Little Mr. & Miss Paxton Contest will be held in the pavilion at Pells Park.

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets every Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Kerbside Floral & Tanning, 516 E. Locust St., Chatsworth. Visitors are always welcome, including preteens, teens and adults, both male and female. There is no charge to attend the first meeting.


Paxton shooting range open for target practice July 7

PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department’s shooting range will be open to the public for target practice, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7.

The daily fee is $10 per person.

The fee covers the person’s right to use the property and shooting targets, but people still need to provide their own gun, ammunition and ear and eye protection.


One-way traffic to be in effect around Bixby Park for fireworks show

PAXTON — One-way traffic on all streets surrounding Bixby Park will be in effect when the city’s fireworks show is held at the park on the southeast edge of town on Independence Day.

The Loda Sportsman’s Club has raffle tickets on sale for a drawing to be held Wednesday, July 4, during Paxton’s annual Old-Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration at Pells Park. To obtain a raffle ticket, people can contact a Loda Sportsman’s Club member or call Dan Marlor at 217-550-4546.

MELVIN — Nashville recording artist Travis Tritt headlines this year’s concert at the Ford County Fair in Melvin. Opening the concert will be Craig Campbell, and a post-concert party features Jordan Davis.


Ford County Fair features something for everyone

MELVIN — This year’s Ford County Fair, running June 24-30, features concerts, action and events for family members of all ages.

The fair opens Sunday, June 24, with the western horse show at 10 a.m. The jackpot gilt show starts at 5 p.m. that day.

Monday night features the annual fair queen pageant at 7 p.m. in the dance building.


Jackpot rises beyond $5,324 for tonight's drawing

GIBSON CITY — The Ed Day Skatepark Committee in Gibson City held its weekly drawing on May 30 at the Gibson City American Legion post. The amount in the pot for the drawing was $5,324. The player’s name drawn was Amy Anderson, who had picked Card No. 11. The 8 of Clubs was turned over. There was no winner, so the jackpot will roll over and be even higher for the next drawing at 7:30 p.m.
