PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department released the following list of recent activity:

➜ Kaleb H. Robidoux, 18, of Paxton, was arrested for domestic battery at 5:09 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at 150 E. Patton St. Amid an argument with an elderly family member, Robidoux allegedly struck that family member with a retractable dog leash.

Paxton cops issuing written warnings for ordinance violations

PAXTON — Starting June 1, Paxton police officers have been issuing written warnings to property owners regarding ordinance violations those landowners were verbally notified about in May.

“They will have until July 1 to get those situations rectified,” Police Chief Coy Cornett said. “If they don’t, these people will be receiving notices to appear (in court).”

Authorities continue to probe Elliott man's death

ELLIOTT — Authorities continue to investigate the death of an Elliott man who was found dead inside his home following a fire there last month.

Ford County Sheriff Mark Doran was tight-lipped about the ongoing investigation Monday, declining to say whether foul play was suspected.

Jury returns split verdict in Watseka shooting

WATSEKA — A Milford man faces sentencing on June 28 after an Iroquois County jury returned a split verdict in a case where he is accused of shooting a 20-year-old woman.

Following is a list of cases filed recently in Ford County Circuit Court:

• Ronald E. Campe Jr., 36, of Gibson City, for aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery.

• Jonathon R. Ellsworth, 31, of Olney, for driving under the influence of alcohol.

PAXTON — Prior to a hearing in Ford County Circuit Court in April 2017, Frankie Ward was sitting in Judge Matt Fitton’s courtroom, laughing and joking with a person next to her.

PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department released the following list of recent activity:

Man, 79, killed in Buckley house fire

BUCKLEY — An elderly man died in a house fire in Buckley early Monday morning.

Iroquois County Coroner Bill Cheatum said Larry L. Swindle, 79, was unable to escape the two-story home at 209 E. Main St. after the fire started around 1 a.m.

Mr. Swindle was pronounced dead at 7:12 a.m., Cheatum said.

Cause of fire at NAPA store in Paxton undetermined

PAXTON — A fire Friday night that started in the rear of the NAPA Autoparts store in downtown Paxton may have been caused by sparks created when the store’s manager was making a new hydraulic hose earlier in the day, Paxton’s fire chief said, but the cause remains undetermined.
