New law allows for waiver of court fines for low-income individuals

PAXTON — Ford County’s budget could see a reduction in revenue under a new state law that streamlines the fines and fees Illinois’ circuit courts can collect and allows low-income individuals who are unable to pay their court fines to petition for those fees to be waived.


County officials sued by fired animal control warden

WATSEKA — In a lawsuit filed against two Iroquois County Board members and the county’s animal control administrator, a former animal control warden alleges she was maliciously fired last October in retaliation for speaking out about corruption in her workplace.

Paxton shooting range open for target practice Sept. 22

PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department’s shooting range will be open to the public for target practice, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.

The daily fee is $10 per person.

The fee covers the person’s right to use the property and shooting targets, but people still need to provide their own gun, ammunition and ear and eye protection.

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City Police Department has a new officer.

Austin Rosenbaum was sworn-in as an officer during Monday night’s city council meeting, He replaces Storm Crouch, who left for another job opportunity.

Rural Clifton man killed in two-vehicle crash

CHEBANSE — A rural Clifton man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in northern Iroquois County last Wednesday.

The Iroquois County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that the accident occurred around 11:26 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the intersection of county roads 2950 North and 700 East in rural Clifton.
