PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department released the following list of recent activity:


UPDATED: Loda woman dies in two-vehicle accident in rural Ford County

URBANA — A Loda woman died Wednesday after a two-vehicle collision at a rural intersection in Ford County.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Lori Whitfield, 54, was pronounced dead at 12:57 p.m. Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where she had been taken for treatment.

• Karina Del Real, 23, no address listed, for receiving/possessing/selling a stolen vehicle.
• Thomas D. Johnson, 55, of Melvin, for criminal damage to property ($500 to $10,000).

Ex-police chief to get $130,000 as part of settlement

PAXTON — The Paxton City Council approved a settlement agreement Monday night to put an end to a lawsuit brought against the city by former police chief Bob Bane.

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City Police Department released the following list of persons arrested or ticketed recently:

➜ Jennifer L. Fortenberry, 48, of 523 S. Lott Blvd., Gibson City, for suspended registration on Friday, June 22.

➜ Haley A. Stagen, 22, of 705 N. Maple St., Paxton, for speeding on Thursday, June 21.


City may settle lawsuit filed by former police chief next week

PAXTON — A settlement is being negotiated between the city and its former police chief to resolve a lawsuit alleging he was fired illegally.

The agenda for a special meeting of the Paxton City Council to be held at 6 p.m. Monday, July 2, lists for possible approval a resolution authorizing the settlement and the release of all claims in the lawsuit.


Ford County militia members indicted for Minnesota mosque firebombing

MINNEAPOLIS — A federal grand jury in Minnesota has indicted three Ford County men for civil rights and hate crime violations in connection with the firebombing of a mosque in that state last August.

No court dates had been set in Minnesota, however, for Michael Hari, 47, Michael McWhorter, 29, and Joe Morris, 23, all of Clarence.
