Early-morning crash claims life of former PBL student

URBANA — A former Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School student died of injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision early Friday in northwest Champaign.


Gibson City man pleads guilty to drug charge during his trial

PAXTON — A Gibson City man’s trial was cut short Wednesday after he unexpectedly entered a plea of guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver during Ford County State’s Attorney Andrew Killian’s presentation of evidence.

Ford County Circuit Court cases (April 18, 2018)

Following is a list of cases filed recently in Ford County Circuit Court:

DUI
• Daniel L. Jordan, 52, of Gibson City, for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Conservation violation
• John A. Weakman, 57, of Roberts, for unlawfully taking or possessing deer.


Ford County men will be tried on Illinois machine-gun charges first

URBANA — Federal prosecutors in Urbana will try their case against four Ford County men before prosecutors in Minnesota proceed with theirs against three of the men accused of bombing a mosque there, a judge ruled Monday.

Both prosecutors and defense attorneys had asked for a 60-day delay in the Minnesota case.


Area law enforcement officials announce 'Operation Buckle Up'

ASHKUM — District 21 Illinois State Police and area law enforcement officials within the district’s three jurisdictional counties — Kankakee, Iroquois and Ford counties — announced plans Tuesday aimed at increasing seat belt compliance within all three counties.

The collaborative effort was implemented following a recent spike in fatal crashes involving unrestrained motorists.

• Matthew L. Anderson, 23, of Paxton, for burglary and theft (less than $500).
• Harlee N. Nelson, 18, of Paxton, for burglary.


Bombing suspects plead not guilty

URBANA — After being indicted by a grand jury last week for possession of a machine gun, four Ford County men pleaded not guilty Monday to the charge.
