Gibson Area Hospital doctors honored with statewide awards

GIBSON CITY — A special reception was held recently at Railside Golf Club in Gibson City in recognition of Gibson Area Hospital orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Chris Dangles and the late Dr. George Bark, a family practitioner at Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services’ Paxton Clinic, for receiving the 2017 Physician of Excellence Award from the Illinois Rural Health Association (IRHA).

Watseka hospital to close its OB unit

WATSEKA — Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka announced that it will file a certificate of need with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to close the hospital’s obstetrics services unit, effective July 31.


Ford County Public Health schedules two more flu clinics

PAXTON — The Ford County Public Health Department has scheduled additional flu vaccination clinics for 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, and 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the agency’s office at  235 N. Taft St. in Paxton.

Hospital receives national recognition for excellence in patient satisfaction

GIBSON CITY — Gibson Area Hospital in Gibson City has been recognized by iVantage Health Analytics and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH) for excellence in patient satisfaction, reflecting top quartile performance among all rural acute-care hospitals in the nation.

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson Area Hospital Auxiliary, in conjunction with the Gibson Area Hospital Foundation, is sponsoring the 12th annual Love Lights a Tree fundraiser to support Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services.


Gibson City native Ertel named hospital's chief financial officer

GIBSON CITY — Gibson City native Matthew Ertel has been hired as chief financial officer for Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services (GAHHS).

Ertel was born at Gibson Area Hospital (GAH) and raised in Gibson City. Ertel said he considered himself a “frequent flyer” at the hospital during his childhood, as he underwent multiple operations on his hands and feet there.

RURAL BUCKLEY — By the time his sophomore year was over at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School, Mike Shively had already lost one of his classmates, Ryan Coe, to cancer.

Seven years later, in 2015, another member of Shively’s 2011 graduating class, Jon Hustedt, would die as a result of the disease.
