Fundraisers planned for Phase II of playground project in Gibson City

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City Rotary Club is ready to start Phase II of the North Park playground project.

When Phase II is completed, the entire playground area will have new and/or renovated equipment. Also, the blue safety surface that was installed as part of Phase I will cover the remaining area currently covered in pea gravel.

Completion of the project is expected in 2018.

Family keeping Ed Day's dream alive

GIBSON CITY — As Ed Day and his wife, Lorri, began renovating a building in downtown Gibson City a couple of years ago, they kept having to tell the kids skateboarding on the sidewalk outside to go somewhere else.

They didn’t want to have to do so. It’s just that they didn’t want to see anyone get hurt while they were remodeling.

Paxton public pool to close for summer after Sunday

PAXTON -- After Sunday, Aug. 20, the public swimming pool in Paxton will be closed for the rest of the year.
The pool is closed this Thursday and Friday, but will re-open for the final two days of the season, as decided by the Paxton Park District Board of Commissioners at Tuesday's monthly meeting. Open hours will be 1-9 p.m. on Saturday and noon-5 p.m.

Paxton pool opens to heat, crowds

PAXTON — With temperatures in the 90s, it made for a busy opening day for the Paxton Park District’s swimming pool.

Recreation Director Neal McKenry said 118 season pool passes were sold on Wednesday as the pool opened for the first time this summer, following several weeks of delays in getting the pool’s old, leaking liner replaced.

Public swimming pool in Paxton to be open Wednesday

PAXTON -- The swimming pool at Coady Park will be open tomorrow, the Paxton Park District stated in a Facebook post.
Open swim hours for the season will be held from 1-5:30 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1-5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
A closing date is still to be determined.

Workers finally arrive at Paxton pool; opening date eyed

PAXTON — Workers from Indianapolis-based Renosys Corp. are finally at Coady Park replacing the old liner in the Paxton Park District’s swimming pool, giving hope that the pool may be able to open to the public as soon as next Wednesday.

PAXTON — The Paxton Park District’s recreation director has decided not to ban three kids from Westlawn Park for behavior that he termed as “not being conducive to a family-friendly environment.”

However, Neal McKenry warned that “if there were any more incidents or complaints filed, there won’t be a second chance.”
