Traffic backed up on I-57 near Buckley

ASHKUM — District 21 Illinois State Police said several slide-offs have been reported due to icy conditions on Interstate 57 in Ford, Iroquois and Kankakee counties.


Illinois driver services facilities closed Jan. 1

GIBSON CITY — Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that all driver services facilities will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1, for New Year’s Day.

All facilities will re-open for regular business on Friday, Jan. 2.

WATSEKA — Iroquois County’s Emergency Services & Disaster Agency is warning drivers to be careful on wet roads, especially at night.


Child car seats can be checked for proper installation on Sept. 20 in Gibson City

GIBSON CITY — Gibson Area Hospital’s OB Department is hosting a National Seat Check Saturday event on Saturday, Sept. 20, at the hospital’s main entrance.

Free child car seat checks will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon by the hospital’s certified child passenger safety technicians.

Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau to host defensive driving course in Gilman

GILMAN — The Ford-Iroquois Farm Bureau will sponsor a defensive driving course on Aug. 19-20 at the Farm Bureau building in Gilman. 

The two-day course will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The cost is $17.50 per person and includes lunch for both days.


Distracted-driving event coming to PBL on Wednesday

PAXTON — Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services will present a program Wednesday at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School that warns of the dangers of distracted driving — just in time for PBL’s prom.

The program is being presented from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school in Paxton.
