PBL volleyball loses in two sets to Oakwood

PAXTON -- Even though her Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School volleyball team won its first two games of the 2017 season, head coach Lindsay Muehlbauer said she was not sure which team would show up Tuesday against Oakwood.
 
"I think we're a team that can play really well or really bad at the same time. It depends on which team comes out," Muehlbauer said.

GCMS volleyball defeats Ridgeview in season opener

COLFAX -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School volleyball team defeated Ridgeview 25-22, 18-25, 25-23 in its season opener on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
 
Jessica Freehill, Claire Retherford and Emily Lange all had four kills for the Falcons.

Fisher/GCMS soccer rallies to 2-2 tie with Judah Christian

CHAMPAIGN -- The Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley soccer team tied 2-2 in a Tuesday, Aug. 22, match with Judah Christian.
 
Judah Christian led 1-0 at halftime and 2-0 after making a penalty kick in the second half, but the Bunnies came back with two goals of their own.

FISHER -- The Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley soccer team started its season with an 8-0 victory over Normal Calvary Christian.
 
The Bunnies scored seven goals in the first half.
 
Matthias Dean scored an unassisted goal in the second minute before Graham Voelker tallied a goal in the 12th minute with Alec Johnson recording an assist.

GCMS Youth Football Seniors improve to 2-0 with win over Iroquois West

GILMAN -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Youth Football Seniors team defeated Iroquois West 30-16 on Saturday.
 
Aiden Laughery ran for a touchdown, caught two scoring passes from Kellen Deschepper and ran back a punt for another touchdown. 
 
The defense was led by Marcus Miguel, Zander Wier and Awstace Grauer. At 5 p.m.

PBL JH softball teams defeat Milford

PAXTON -- Emma Steiner pitched her second no-hitter of hte season as the Paxton-Buckley-Loda Junior High School softball "A" team defeated Milford 15-0 on Monday.
 
At the plate, the Panthers produced four hits as Losa Suaava and Lorena Arnett each hit 1-for-2.

GCMS boys golf wins triangular meet over Fisher, Ridgeview

At Gibson City. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley won a triangular at Railside Golf Club with a 170 against Fisher (223) and Ridgeview (229) as the Falcons improved to 4-0 on the season.
