Vaughn Gentzler -- The former Paxton-Buckley-Loda boys track and field standout finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.42 seconds in the finals, and 8.51 seconds in preliminaries, for Monmouth College at the Midwest Conference Meet last weekend.
 
Gentzler was also part of a 4x200 relay team that finished fourth with a time of 1:31.5 and a 4x400 relay

Four GCMS/Fisher Middle School wrestlers advance to IESA's sectional round

NORMAL -- Four wrestlers from the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher Middle School team qualified for sectionals after placing in the top four at IESA regionals in Normal Parkside on Saturday.
 
Eighth-grade Braylen Kean took first place in the 135-pound bracket, moving up to 32 wins for the season.

Eureka girls basketball ends season with fourth-place finish at state

NORMAL -- With a 45-32 loss to Teutopolis in the third-place game of the IHSA Class 2A state tournament, the Eureka girls basketball team finished its season with a record of 28-5.

Eureka girls basketball loses 55-50 to Chicago Harlan in IHSA Class 2A state semifinals

NORMAL -- Despite a double-double from Tessa Leman, Eureka lost 55-50 to Chicago Harlan in the IHSA Class 2A state semifinals on Friday.
 
Leman scored 26 points for the Hornets (28-4) while also grabbing 13 rebounds. 
 
Eureka grabbed an 11-10 lead by the end of the first quarter thanks to a 3-pointer by Leman that cut a Hornets deficit
