GCMS High School girls basketball defeats Iroquois West 59-29 in season opener

GIBSON CITY -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School girls basketball team started its season with a 59-29 win in the Lady Falcon/Bunnie Tip-Off Classic over Iroquois West on Monday.
 
The Falcons outscored Iroquois West in the first quarter as Hannah Hathaway made two 3-pointers and Claire Retherford drained two field goals.

Milford/Cissna Park football team wins 8-man league state title

MONMOUTH — Milford/Cissna Park defeated Alden-Hebron 66-14 on Friday in the 8-Man Football Association tital game.

The inaugural 8-man playoffs featured four teams.

The Bearcats produced 525 total yards of offense, including 507 on the ground, while their defense yielded only 91 yards and forced four turnovers, including three interceptions.

LANARK -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School football team is playing in the IHSA Class 2A state semifinals for the second year in a row.
 
The Falcons earned their trip to the final four by beating a familiar opponent in Sterling Newman Central Catholic -- whom GCMS also beat 14-8 in last year's state semifinals en route to its state championship -- via 27-12

STERLING -- An interception return for a touchdown by Austin Spiller with less than two minutes remaining stopped a late Sterling Newman drive and sealed a 27-12 road victory for Gibson-City-Melvin-Sibley on Saturday night in a Class 2A quarterfinal game at Roscoe Eades Stadium.
 
"The defense played outstanding all game," GCMS coach Mike Allen said.

Jake Stevenson -- The former Paxton-Buckley-Loda football standout started at center for a McKendree University team that produced 495 yards of total offense in a 50-32 win Saturday over Lincoln (Mo.).
 
Jordan Anderson -- The 2015 PBL graduate started at defensive end for a Knox College football team that yielded 327 yards of offense to Ripon College in a 38-19 loss

PBL swim team finishes season at IHSA Normal Sectional

NORMAL -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School swim team's 200-yard medley relay squad (Kirra Lantz, Lillie Frichtl, Daiton Piatt and Kylie Piatt) finished 10th with a time of 2:27.64 in Saturday's IHSA Normal Sectional. 
 
The PBL 200-yard freestyle relay (Lillie Frichtl, Kylie Piatt, Daiton Piatt and Kirra Lantz) finished 11th with a time of 2:12.74.
