Pure Sweat skills trainer Brandon Heyen on Oregon commit Francis Okoro: 'I just try to help him any way I can'

BLOOMINGTON -- After graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University, 2011 Paxton-Buckley-Loda graduate Brandon Heyen became a skills trainer for Pure Sweat Basketball, a national skills training camp.
 
Heyen has worked with "almost 100-200" boys and girls basketball players around the Central Illinois Area.

Pure Sweat Basketball camp to be held May 19

PAXTON -- Brandon Heyen, a 2011 Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School graduate, is holding a Pure Sweat Basketball camp at PBL Junior High School on Saturday, May 19, for boys and girls in the fifth-12th grades.
 
The girls' camp will take place from 2-4 p.m., with the boys' camp to follow at 4-6 p.m.

Local coaches named to list of IBCA’s Coaches of the Year

GIBSON CITY — Ryan Tompkins, head coach of the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School varsity boys basketball team, was one of 82 coaches selected by the Illinois Baseball Coaches Association for the Coaches of the Year award for high school boys basketball.

Elite Pro Lawn Goodfellas, Pippen Ain't Easy win Paxton Park District Men's Basketball League championships

PAXTON -- In the Competitive League championship, Elite Pro Lawn Goodfellas defeated Paxton Ready Mix 66-57 to win its second consecutive Competitive League title.  
 
Aaron Jake and Talon Hardin led Goodfellas with 20 points apiece.  Mark Martin, Nick Griffin, and Zach Griffin totaled eight points each, while Johnnie Jones chipped in two points. &

GCMS's Mitch McNutt makes four treys in final round of IHSA Class 2A Three-Point Showdown state tournament

PEORIA -- Mitch McNutt of the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley boys basketball team made four 3-pointers in the final round of the IHSA Class 2A Three-Point Showdown's state tournament.
 
Colin McCubbins of Heyworth won the 2A championship by making 10 treys.

GIBSON CITY -- Bryce Barnes of the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley boys basketball team was named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association's Class 1A/2A All-State second team.
 
Teammate Ryland Holt was named to the fourth team.

SVC-HOIC All-Star basketball games to take place Saturday, March 17

GIBSON CITY -- WGCY Radio in Gibson City will host the Sangamon Valley Conference/Heart of Illinois Conference All-Star basketball games on Saturday, March 17, at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School.
 
The girls' game will tip off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the boys' contest.

GCMS boys basketball player Mitch McNutt advances to final round of IHSA Class 2A Three-Point Showdown's state tournament

PEORIA -- Mitch McNutt of the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley boys basketball team is advancing to the final round of the IHSA Class 2A Three-Point Showdown's state tournament.
 
McNutt made 11 3-pointers in the preliminary round on Thursday.
