GCMS football starts quest to defend state title Friday

GIBSON CITY — A year after completing its best season in school history by winning the IHSA Class 2A state championship game, the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley football team is back and ready to continue its run of success.


The Great Rostradamus: GCMS vs. PBL football 2018

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley is going into week one of the 2018 season as the IHSA Class 2A defending state champion.
 
The Falcons are returning their starting quarterback (Nathan Garard), along with two of their best receivers (Ryland Holt and Bryce Barnes).

GCMS, PBL to renew football rivalry Friday

PAXTON -- Mike Allen, the head coach of the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School football team, said it's hard to say that his team's first game of the season "is a very good measuring stick."  
 
"Your players are still learning and getting into shape," Allen continued.

GCMS Youth Football teams play season openers against Iroquois West

GILMAN -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Youth Football Seniors lost 33-14 to Iroquois West on Saturday. 
 
Ty Hardin and Rylan Defries each scored a touchdown and Lane Phillips made one extra-point kick.

PBL Youth Football Juniors win 6-0 over Momence

MOMENCE -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda Youth Football Juniors won 6-0 Saturday in its Central Illinois Football League debut over Momence.
 
The Panthers' defense shut out Momence with what coach Bob King called a "great defensive effort.

PBL Youth Football Mighty Mites lose 12-0 to Momence

MOMENCE -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda Youth Football Mighty Mites lost 12-0 in their 2018 Central Illinois Football League debut to Momence on Saturday.
 
"It was a battle for most of the game," PBL Mighty Mites coach Bobby Kinnaird said. "(Momence) made a couple of plays that made the difference. It's a good, early learning experience for a lot of first-year kids.

PBL football to start season Aug. 24

PAXTON -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School football team's quest for a fifth consecutive playoff appearance will begin on Friday, Aug. 24.
