PBL girls basketball loses 61-53 to Watseka in SVC Tournament championship

GILMAN -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda girls basketball team lost 61-53 to Watseka in the Sangamon Valley Conference Tournament championship game on Thursday.
Watseka, which went into the game as the fifth-ranked team in Class 2A, improved to 21-2 with the win.
The Panthers, who fell to a record of 13-11 with the loss, will host Unity on Monday

GCMS girls basketball wins 40-29 over Deer Creek-Mackinaw

GIBSON CITY -- A 40-29 victory Thursday over Deer Creek-Mackinaw extended the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley girls basketball team's winning streak to seven games and improved the Falcons' overall record to 19-4 and record in the Heart of Illinois Conference to 10-1.
“It’s a heck of a record for us. I’m proud of the girls," GCMS head coach Keri Dornbusch said.

GILMAN -- Two wins, including a 51-24 victory Wednesday over Momence, puts the Paxton-Buckley-Loda girls basketball team one win away from its second consecutive Sangamon Valley Conference Tournament championship.
The Panthers' win in the tournament semifinals over Momence included a 29-16 advantage in the second half.

LEXINGTON -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley girls basketball team won 45-38 Monday over Lexington.
The Falcons (18-4, 9-1 Heart of Illinois Conference) outscored Lexington 11-4 in the fourth quarter to break a 34-34 tie.

On two occasions in the first quarter of Monday's SVC Tournament quarterfinal game, seventh-seeded Iroquois West held a lead against No. 2-seeded PBL.
