Paxton resident Mike Wilson officiates IHSA soccer state tournament

NAPERVILLE -- Paxton resident Mike Wilson was one of 11 soccer officials assigned to last weekend's IHSA Class 2A/3A state-final girls' tournament.
 
He officated the Class 2A semifinal match between West Chicago Wheaton Academy and Lemont, which Wheaton Academy won 1-0 after gaining a 7-6 advantage in penalty kicks.

GCMS's Bleich to play soccer at Olivet Nazarene University

BOURBONNAIS -- Julia Bleich, a senior at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School, has signed her letter of intent to play for the women’s soccer team at Olivet Nazarene University.

Bleich is a Melvin resident and has been a member of the Illinois Futbol Club in Champaign since her eighth-grade year. She has been a soccer play since she was a 4-year-old.


Paxton Park District fall soccer

Here are some of the highlights from Tuesday’s Paxton Park District fall soccer match between the 11-and-under Blue Streaks and the 11U Gold Rush at Coady Park in Paxton. The Blue Streaks defeated the Gold Rush 3-1. With two weeks left in the Paxton Park District’s fall soccer season, the Blue Streaks have a record of 6-1-1. The loss dropped the Gold Rush to a record of 6-2.


Registration for Paxton Park District fall sports is available

PAXTON — The Paxton Park District has opened registration for fall soccer and flag football.

Levels for fall soccer include micro age, ages 6-and-under, 8-and-under, 11-and-under and 14-and-under.

The deadline for registration is August 7, except for the micro level, for which the deadline is August 21.


IHSA board approves regular-season football contact restrictions, postseason changes

BLOOMINGTON — The IHSA Board of Directors approved a joint recommendation from the IHSA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and Football Advisory Committee to limit the number of hours and days each week that an IHSA member school football team is allowed to have full live contact during full-pad practices at its Monday meeting.
