PBL cheerleaders place second in competition

WILMINGTON — The Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School cheerleading squad placed second in their division at a competition held Sunday at Wilmington High School, qualifying for the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association’s state meet as a result.

PBL cheerleaders place seventh in competition

PONTIAC — The Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School cheerleading squad placed seventh out of 13 teams in their division at a competition held Saturday at Pontiac High School.

The Panthers’ next competition will be held Sunday at Wilmington.

Andy Thompson wins Street Stock championship at Farmer City Raceway

FARMER CITY -- Andy Thompson of Paxton won the Street Stocks division championship at the Farmer City Raceway for the 2017 season.
After the Raceway's final race on Friday, Sept. 1, in which Thompson finished ninth in the Street Stocks feature, Thompson had 469 points.

Roy Roemer: A Life Remembered


GIBSON CITY — Every game, every practice. Every team banquet, gathering and event. Roy Roemer attended them all.

Roemer, 67, a longtime Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley sports fan, died Thursday night after a short battle with esophageal cancer.

GCMS Education Foundation to host 5K Monster Dash

GIBSON CITY -- The GCMS Education Foundation is hosting its fourth annual 5K Monster Dash at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.  
Preregistration forms may be found at gcmsk12.org. Race-day registration starts at 8 a.m.  
This is a fun run, so there will be no timing bibs, but a timing clock will be present.

LODA -- The Pheasants Forever Young Guns Illinois Pioneer Chapter 69 will be hosting a field day to complete the hunters safety course on Sunday, Oct. 15, from 2-6 p.m.

GCMS Athletic Hall of Fame selects inductees

GIBSON CITY -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Athletic Hall of Fame committed selected three inductees for the Class of 2017.
The panel of 20 members looked over the credentials of over 50 former athletes, teams, and coaches from GCMS, Melvin-Sibley, Gibson City, Drummer, Melvin, and Sibley High Schools before making their selection.

Ford-Iroquois 4-H Sharpshooters to hold kickoff event Saturday, Sept. 23
