Irish’s Gymnastics athletes compete at USTA National Championship

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Area gymnasts representing Irish’s Gymnastics, which is based in Gilman, competed at the 2018 United States Tumbling & Trampoline Association National Championship competition held June 13-16.

Athletes from Irish’s Gymnastics brought home eight national championships and 58 top-10 finishes.

Rantoul derby racer qualifies for world championship

CHICAGO — On June 2, Joshua Ostrander, 15, of Rantoul and Cole Irvin, 12, of Paxton raced in the Super Stock division at the 37th annual Greater Chicago Local Soap Box Derby Race. 

Run For the Fireworks 5K, 10K to be held June 30 near Cissna Park

CISSNA PARK -- The seventh-annual Run For the Fireworks 5K and 10K will be held Saturday, June 30, at Kellart Lake, located two miles north of Cissna Park on Highway 49.
The 10K race will begin at 7:30 a.m.

Sibley Sparkling Shuffle 5K to take place July 3

SIBLEY -- The sixth annual Sibley Sparkling Shuffle 5K will take place at 9 p.m. July 3 at the Sibley Pavilion on Sciota Street. 
Pre-race activities will start at 7:15 p.m.
A discounted registration is available through June 20.

PF Young Guns to hold habitat shoot

LODA -- Pheasants Forever Young Guns will hold a habitat shoot at the Loda Sportsmens Club from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, June 9.
Participants will be shooting clay targets that are filled with seed as part of a pollinator/habitat project.

FCA Power Camp to take place in late June

GIBSON CITY — The eighth-annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Power Camp, a sports camp for children who are entering fifth through eighth grades in the upcoming fall, will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 25-28. 

Drop off each morning will be at the Gibson City Bible Church, and pick-up each afternoon will be at the GCMS Middle School.  

Gibson City Youth Fishing Derby to take place on Saturday

GIBSON CITY —  Gibson City’s third annual youth fishing derby is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 19, at Jordan Pond, which is located west of Gibson City just off of Highway 9 on 300 East Road.

Registration is at 10:30 a.m., with fishing to take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. A hot dog meal will be served at approximately noon.

Dylan Benningfield Memorial Dodgeball Tournament

GIBSON CITY — Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher wrestlers, and GCMS High School's Red Army student section, hosted a dodgeball tournament on Sunday in memory of Dylan Benningfield, who died in a car accident earlier in April.
