CLIFTON – Paxton-Buckley-Loda head coach Kelli Vaughn said she almost chose to retire the coaching whistle after her volleyball team went to state in 2006.
She said she chose to return with the desire to coach this year’s eighth-graders.
ONARGA — The Paxton-Buckley-Loda seventh-grade volleyball team got off to a dominating start to Onarga Regional play Saturday.
PAXTON — Kailey Kleinert, Kandace Hofer and Kayla Cowan of Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School were all voted Wednesday onto the Sangamon Valley All-Conference First Team for volleyball.
Kortnie Schroeder was named to the Second Team while Amanda Ypya received an Honorable Mention.

TOLONO — After setting a school record for most victories in a season with 25, PBL needed one more on Thursday to set yet another milestone.
The milestone is one the volleyball program hasn’t achieved since 2004 — a regional title.
In Game 1 of the Tolono Unity Regional championship match, PBL looked like the team that set a school record for most wins in a season.
Christ Lutheran results
The Crusaders lost 25-22, 25-15 to Milford on Monday in the first round of the Milford Regional.
“I think we played really well,” Christ Lutheran head coach Kaylea Heideman said. “It’s one of our best matches, but Milford came to play and it was a tough loss.”
PAXTON — St. Joseph-Ogden beat PBL 20-25, 25-17, 25-21 in the third-place match of the SVC Tournament.
Kandace Hofer led PBL (24-5) in Saturday’s match with eight kills and digs each.
Kayla Cowan recorded 22 assists. Amanda Ypya added two blocks while Jori Maynard scored 17 service points.
GCMS results
The No. 13-seeded Falcons won the second set against No. 12 Ridgeview in the Heart of Illinois Conference Tournament consolation quarterfinals.
It was not enough, however, as GCMS dropped to a record of 3-22 with a 25-21, 14-25 loss to the Mustangs on Thursday.
The loss also eliminated GCMS from the tournament.
GCMS results
The Falcons dropped to a record of 3-21 with a 25-9, 25-9 loss to El Paso-Gridley on Tuesday, Oct. 16, in the Heart of Illinois Conference Tournament at Lexington.
They will face Ridgeview on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket at 4:15 p.m.
PAXTON — The Panthers will not add a Sangamon Valley Conference Tournament title to their list of accomplishments this season.
Watseka put that goal to rest on Wednesday by upsetting No. 1-seeded PBL 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 in the semifinals.
PAXTON — The last time PBL lost a match was at a volleyball tournament on Sept. 15 at its high school gymnasium.
In the semifinals of the PBL Volleyball Classic, the Panthers lost to St. Joseph-Ogden 25-22, 23-25, 25-18 as Kandace Hofer sat out with a sprained ankle. The loss dropped PBL to 13-3.
