IHSA football playoff outlook (after Week 8)

After Week 9, the IHSA's playoff selection show will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, with Class 1A, 2A and 3A pairings to be shown at 8:10, 8:20 and 8:30 p.m., respectively. The show can be seen on television on NBC Sports Chicago Plus or online at

GCMS tennis ends season in sectionals

CHAMPAIGN -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley tennis team concluded its season on Saturday at the IHSA Class 1A Champaign Central Sectional.
"Congratulations to all the girls who played at Sectionals this past Saturday," GCMS head coach Cindy Petersen said.

Jordan Anderson -- The former Paxton-Buckley-Loda football standout had two tackles for Knox College in a 28-7 win Saturday over Grinnell College. 
Sam Baillie -- The former Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley football standout had one unassisted tackle and three assisted tackles for Culver-Stockton in a 24-21 loss Saturday to William Penn.

PBL volleyball places third in SVC/RVC Tournament

KANKAKEE -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School volleyball team finished third in the Sangamon/River Valley Conference Tournament.
The Panthers defeated Watseka 25-19, 30-28 in the third-place match on Saturday after losing 25-23, 30-28 in the semifinals to eventual-champion Beecher.

PBL High School boys cross country places seventh at Patriot Invite

PEORIA -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School boys cross country team finished seventh in the 43-team Patriot Invite held Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
The Panthers finished with a score of 288 while Elmwood/Brimfield scored a 94 to finish first.

PBL JH cross country runners compete in IESA Class 2A state meet

NORMAL — Trixie Johnson of the Paxton-Buckley-Loda Junior High School girls cross country team finished 102nd in the IESA Class 2A state meet with a time of 13:11.8 on Saturday.

Teammate Alexis Putnam finished 107th with a time of 13:15.1.

GCMS Youth Football Juniors, PBL Seniors win in double-overtime in CIFL semifinals

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Youth Football Juniors and Paxton-Buckley-Loda Youth Football Seniors will both play in the Central Illinois Football League’s SuperBowl games next weekend.

Each team advanced through Saturday’s semifinals after playing in double overtime as GCMS’s Juniors defeated PBL 14-8 and PBL’s Seniors beat Momence 26-20.
