Paxton Swedes, Buckley Dutchmasters split EI League doubleheader

PAXTON — In the first game of the doubleheader between the Buckley Dutchmasters and the Paxton Swedes, it was business as usual between the two teams.

As had happened regularly for the past two seasons, Buckley won a 5-0 decision. But, in the second game, the Swedes did something they had not done in two years — beat their archrivals — topping them decisively 9-3.


GCMS football camps to take place in July

GIBSON CITY — The 2018 Falcon Football Camp will take place July 9-13 at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School.

Junior Camp, which will be for campers entering first through eighth grade, will take place from 9-10:30 a.m., and varsity camp (grades ninth through 12th) will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the GCMS football field.


Paxton Swedes lose two extra-inning games to Gifford-Flatville

GIFFORD — The Paxton Swedes could not have asked more from their pitching over the weekend.

Even though they finished 1-3 over the weekend, they could have just easily been 3-1. Most of the Swedes had to like what they saw, especially from their overworked pitching staff.

Mark Prina, the manager of the team, certainly did.


Gibson Area Swim Team places second in triangular meet

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson Area Swim team finished second in a triangular meet held Saturday.

Gibson Area finished with a score of 311 while Rantoul finished first with a score of 352 and Danville placed third with a score of 130.

BUCKLEY -- The Buckley Dutchmasters split an Eastern Illinois Baseball League doubleheader with the Royal Giants on Sunday.

GIBSON CITY -- The Falcons age 14-and-under baseball team won 14-3 Saturday over Lex.
