Panthers win medals at St. Joseph Invite

ST. JOSEPH — The Paxton-Buckley-Loda Junior High School cross country team competed at the St. Joseph Invite last Friday.

Eight PBL runners earned medals for finishing in the top 20 of their grade level race.

For the sixth-grade girls, Sydney Pickens and Tanner Graham finished in 15th and 16th place overall.


PBL eighth-, seventh-grade girls basketball teams defeat Clifton J.L. Nash

CLIFTON -- The Paxton-Buckley-Loda eighth-grade girls basketball team won 31-16 over Clifton J.L. Nash on Monday.
 
The Panthers held Nash to seven points through three quarters.

GCMS tennis loses 8-1 to Pontiac

PONTIAC -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley tennis team lost 8-1 Monday to Pontiac.
 
The Falcons' lone winner was Summer Roesch, who defeated Ishika Patel 8-2 in the No. 4 singles match.  
 
"Summer keeps getting better with each meet," GCMS head coach Cindy Petersen said.

Fisher/GCMS soccer wins 1-0 over Unity

TOLONO -- Caleb Bleich found the back of the net in the 75th minute to lift the Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley soccer team to a 1-0 victory Monday over Tolono Unity.
 
Goaltender Ethan Kasper notched a 10-save shutout for Fisher/GCMS (15-1). Nate Reitmeier turned in 14 saves for Unity (7-6-1).
 
Bleich's match-winning goal was unassisted.

PBL volleyball defeats Oakwood in two sets

FITHIAN -- The duo of Addison Oyer (seven kills, one block) and Lexi Johnson (six kills, two blocks, one dig) charged the attack for the Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School varsity volleyball team in a 25-22, 25-17 victory Monday over Oakwood.
 
Abbie Schmidt produced 19 assists, two aces and three digs as well for PBL (12-7) while Mackenzie Bruns had three kills and one

PAXTON -- It has been nearly a month since either Salt Fork or Paxton-Buckley-Loda have lost a game.
 
In the case of Salt Fork, it will travel to Paxton for a 7 p.m. Friday game looking to stay undefeated.
 
"They're undefeated, and it's for a reason," PBL head coach Jeff Graham said.

GCMS, Tri-Valley football to battle for HOIC Large supremacy

GIBSON CITY -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley and Tri-Valley football teams each have "something to prove," according to GCMS head coach Mike Allen.
 
Since the Heart of Illinois Conference divided into two divisions for football prior to the 2016 season, Tri-Valley has won the Large Division title in each of the past two seasons while GCMS won the Small Division each

GCMS Youth Football Juniors win 30-0 over Clifton Central

CLIFTON -- The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Youth Football Juniors team won 30-0 over Clifton Central on Saturday.
 
Jacob Chase scored two touchdowns and Spencer Kleist also tallied two touchdowns while Mason Doman and Austin Kasper each made a two-point kick.
Chase led the Falcons' defense with tackles.
