The Village of Rantoul is seeking qualified individuals to fill Volunteer, paid, on-call Firefighter positions within the Rantoul Fire Department. Under general supervision, these individuals perform firefighting duties, including responding to incidents, attending on-going training, and operating firefighting apparatus and equipment. These positions require knowledge, skill and intellectual development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school, along with a valid Illinois Driver's license. Additionally, applicants must be able to be certified as a Fire Fighter Basic within three years of appointment on the Fire Department. Applicants will be required to pass a physical abilities test and a written examination, as well as a background/criminal check. Successful applicants are required to reside within the Rantoul corporate limits and be at least 21 years old.

Journeyman/Apprentice Lineman

The Village of Rantoul is seeking candidates for a full-time Journeyman/Apprentice Lineman position within the Electric Division. Under general direction from the Electric Line Foreman, the selected candidate would repair, install, maintain, and operate portions of the Village of Rantoul electric system. The selected candidate must be able to climb utility poles and perform various types of underground and overhead electric construction. During the first four years, an Apprentice Lineman would be required to complete a specialized training program, consisting of a combination of on the job training and formalized education.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or its equivalent. The selected candidate must possess a valid Illinois driver's license upon hire and, prior to completion of probationary period, must obtain a valid CDL license, which will require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program. A post-offer drug screen will be required of the selected applicant. The selected applicant must be willing to respond to emergencies at all times of the day and on weekends, working during inclement weather conditions.

This is a union position with a starting first-year apprentice hourly wage of $22.87. Residency within four miles of the Village's corporate limits within six months of completing the twelve month probationary period is required.
