Car theft nets prison sentence for Fisher man

URBANA — A Fisher man was sentenced Tuesday to 4 1/2 years in prison for stealing a car in Tolono in December.

Brandon Unzicker, 20, pleaded guilty before Judge Tom Difanis to possession of a stolen vehicle.

He was arrested Dec. 31 for stealing a car that had been left running in The Oaks mobile home park in Tolono about noon that day.

Man sentenced to 3 years for obstructing justice in crash that hurt farmer

URBANA — A Melvin man who lied about driving a truck that crashed into a Fisher man last year, seriously injuring him, has been sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to make restitution to the man.

Champaign County Board opposes bill on wind farms

URBANA — Champaign County Board members have gone on record as being opposed to legislation in Springfield that they contend would weaken their oversight of wind farms.

Rural Fisher home invasion investigated

FISHER - Two men received minor injuries in an early morning home invasion north of Fisher Saturday.

Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Vercler said three young men from the Rantoul area were at a home in the 600 block of County Road 3300 N about 12:45 a.m. when three armed, masked men came in the house and robbed them. 

Hearing set on plans for Dewey-Fisher Road

URBANA — A public hearing on a proposed $7 million highway improvement project to the Dewey-Fisher Road has been scheduled for Nov. 20.

The informational meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Champaign County Highway Department building, 1605 E. Main St., U.

No injuries reported in Fisher house fire

FISHER — Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office say that electrical issues likely caused a fire at a Fisher home on Sunday morning.

Nobody was reported hurt.

Sangamon Valley Fire Chief Eric Stalter said that firefighters were called to a single story house at 204 S. First St., Fisher, at 7:15 a.m.
