Elderly man gets 140 years in prison for sexual exploitation of three children

URBANA — A 78-year-old man from northern Ford County has been ordered to serve consecutive sentences that total 140 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of three children.

ROBERTS — Larry David was surprised, to say the least, when he was notified last month that the small home in the village of Roberts that he bought 11 years earlier for $12,500 had jumped in assessed value all the way up to $33,510.


Four new troopers assigned to District 21

ASHKUM — Four new Illinois State Police troopers have been assigned to District 21 after graduating from the Illinois State Police Academy on Dec. 22.

The four new troopers were members of Cadet Class 126 during their 25 weeks of training at the academy. They will begin a 14-week field training program and will be patroling in Kankakee, Iroquois and Ford counties.


Cops deliver Christmas meals to families in need

PAXTON — About 50 families in Ford County were to receive a free Christmas meal Friday, courtesy of the Illini Lodge 17 Fraternal Order of Police’s food basket program.

Ford County sheriff’s deputy Dave Kaeding stopped by the Paxton Police Department on Friday morning, towing some 30 food baskets, along with hams and turkeys, using a trailer attached to his sport-utility vehicle.


Farmers mailed ballots for FSA's county committee elections

PAXTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture began mailing ballots Monday, Nov. 6, to farmers and ranchers who are eligible to cast ballots in the 2017 Farm Service Agency (FSA) county committee elections.

Producers must return their ballots to their local FSA offices by Dec. 4 to ensure their vote is counted.
