ELLIOTT — It’s a work of art seen in many Lutheran churches, but for Elaine Ask of Chatfield, Minn., the altar painting inside Pontoppidan Lutheran Church near Elliott is part of her family’s history.

ELLIOTT — A rural Elliott home was destroyed by fire Tuesday, most likely as a result of an electrical issue, said Elliott’s fire chief, Bill Smith.


Four new troopers assigned to District 21

ASHKUM — Four new Illinois State Police troopers have been assigned to District 21 after graduating from the Illinois State Police Academy on Dec. 22.

The four new troopers were members of Cadet Class 126 during their 25 weeks of training at the academy. They will begin a 14-week field training program and will be patroling in Kankakee, Iroquois and Ford counties.


Cops deliver Christmas meals to families in need

PAXTON — About 50 families in Ford County were to receive a free Christmas meal Friday, courtesy of the Illini Lodge 17 Fraternal Order of Police’s food basket program.

Ford County sheriff’s deputy Dave Kaeding stopped by the Paxton Police Department on Friday morning, towing some 30 food baskets, along with hams and turkeys, using a trailer attached to his sport-utility vehicle.


Elliott church discontinues annual supper

ELLIOTT — Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in rural Elliott will no longer be holding its pancake and sausage supper that had been held for years on the first Thursday of December.

“The congregation would like to thank everybody for their past support for this supper,” said Ursula Hustedt, who is affiliated with the church.
