Park board postpones meeting due to lack of quorum

PAXTON — A lack of a quorum for Tuesday night’s meeting of the Paxton Park District’s board of commissioners prompted the meeting to be postponed until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be at the Civic Center, 601 S. Fall St.

PAXTON — Despite concerns about the appearance of favoring one business over another, the Paxton City Council voted 6-1 Tuesday to designate five parking spaces downtown for use exclusively by clients of a yet-to-be-opened dental clinic.

Quick appointed to EIEC's board of directors

PAXTON — The board of directors of Paxton-based Eastern Illini Electric Cooperative (EIEC) has appointed Lauri Quick as its newest board member.

Quick will serve as a director for District 9, a position that became vacant after the death of Jay Hageman, a long-time EIEC director.

➜ Monica S. Miller, 30, of Paxton, was arrested for driving on a suspended driver’s license during a traffic stop at 9:38 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at the intersection of Patton Street and Railroad Avenue. The 2006 Chevrolet Impala that Miller was driving was seized by police under city ordinance.

Bids to be sought for remaining work on PBL school construction/renovation project

PAXTON — As construction continues on a 63,400-square-foot addition to Clara Peterson Elementary School and the renovation of the existing school building, contractors are being sought to finish up some of the remaining work.

City to rescind ordinance allowing for abandoned helicopter frame to be donated

PAXTON — The Paxton City Council is expected Tuesday night to rescind an ordinance it approved last month that allowed for the frame of a helicopter that was left abandoned at the city’s airport to be donated to an American Legion post in Vermilion County.
