Buckley to seek larger loan for water-tower work

BUCKLEY — Village board members voted unanimously Monday night to approve an ordinance increasing the amount of money the village intends to borrow from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for the refurbishing of its old water tower.

According to the ordinance, instead of a $160,000 loan, the village will seek a $180,000 loan from the IEPA.

Ladies Aid society holds February meeting in Buckley

BUCKLEY — Members of the Ladies Aid society of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Buckley met Feb. 7 in the church’s basement, with the following occurring:

➜ President Ruth Biggs led the common table prayer before members enjoyed a lunch served by Nikki and Corey Grohler of St. John’s Lutheran School’s PTL.

➜ In the absence of Norma Niemann, Brenda Schumacher presented the devotion.


Crusaders fall to Cornerstone Christian in scholastic bowl meet

BUCKLEY — Christ Lutheran High School in Buckley competed against Cornerstone Christian Academy of Bloomington in a scholastic bowl rematch of an earlier contest held at Cornerstone Christian Academy. 

The host CLHS Crusaders had a slow start and dropped a junior varsity-level match by six questions. However, the varsity-level match was quite competitive. 


Whitebird resigns as Buckley trustee

BUCKLEY — After accepting a part-time position last month as the director of the Ford County Emergency Management Agency, Terry Whitebird made it clear that his EMA duties would take priority over his various volunteer roles, including as a trustee for the Buckley Village Board.

PAXTON — If needed, Terry Whitebird said he will willingly step down from his volunteer roles as a trustee for the Buckley Village Board, office helper for the Iroquois County Emergency Management Agency and secretary and training officer for the Paxton Emergency Management Agency when he begins his new job as director of the Ford County Emergency Management Agency.


Buckley board hears update on old windmill's restoration

BUCKLEY — Buckley Village Board members received an update on the progress of the refurbishing of an old windmill at the Buckley Lake property during their monthly meeting Monday night.

The update came from Buckley resident Les Dippel, a member of the Buckley Sportsman’s Club, which recently began refurbishing the windmill.

BUCKLEY — Buckley Village Board members voted unanimously Monday night to allow Larry Johnson, an engineer with Fehr Graham in Champaign, to proceed with financing paperwork for the refurbishing of the town’s water tower and to allow Board President Sheree Stachura to sign the necessary documents.
