Longtime Iroquois County Fair board president steps down

CRESCENT CITY — Marvin Perzee, the long-serving president of the Iroquois County Fair board, has announced he is stepping down as president due to health issues. 

Four new troopers assigned to District 21

ASHKUM — Four new Illinois State Police troopers have been assigned to District 21 after graduating from the Illinois State Police Academy on Dec. 22.

The four new troopers were members of Cadet Class 126 during their 25 weeks of training at the academy. They will begin a 14-week field training program and will be patroling in Kankakee, Iroquois and Ford counties.

Indiana woman dies following crash in Iroquois County

CRESCENT CITY — An Indiana woman died following a two-vehicle crash north of Crescent City in Iroquois County on Wednesday night.

Iroquois County Fair to feature 'Wild World of Animals'

CRESCENT CITY — The Iroquois County Fair runs from Tuesday, July 18, through Monday, July 24, at the fairgrounds north of Crescent City.

The fair will feature the Wild World of Animals, a free act that touts itself as one of the premier grounds acts in the wildlife entertainment industry.

The animals in the show range from anthropods to amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

Five to vie for Iroquois County Fair queen's crown

CRESCENT CITY — Five young women will compete for the title of Miss Iroquois County Fair during the Iroquois County Fair’s annual fair queen pageant, scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the fairgrounds north of Crescent City.

Health department reminds well owners to test following floods

WATSEKA — The Iroquois County Public Health Department is recommending that owners of private water wells arrange to have their wells inspected following heavy rains to ensure that surface water has not entered the wells through the well cap, vent or sanitary well seal. 

Disaster declared in Watseka, Iroquois County

WATSEKA — Iroquois County Board Chairman Kyle Anderson of Beaverville has declared a local disaster due to severe flooding in the county, the Iroquois County Emergency Services & Disaster Agency announced in a news release Thursday.

“In the meantime, officials throughout jurisdictions in Iroquois County are working together, along with the state of Illinois,” the release said.

The Paxton Police Department released the following list of recent activity:

— Jermari C. Dorsey, 35, of Champaign, was arrested for driving with a revoked driver’s license during a traffic stop at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at the intersection of Summer and Vermilion streets. The 2004 Saturn Vue he was driving was seized by police under city ordinance.

Two races in Ford, four in Iroquois in March 2016 primary election

While there will be only two contested races for elected positions in Ford County in next March’s primary election, the ballot in neighboring Iroquois County will feature four.
