Downtown revitalization showcased at Gibson City Council meeting

GIBSON CITY — The result of the Gibson City Downtown Revitalization Committee’s first 10 months of work was showcased during the Gibson City Council meeting on Monday night.

Sean Widener, from Clark Dietz in Champaign, took council members through a slideshow presentation featuring downtown renderings he and Ernest Wong from Chicago-based Site Design Group collaborated to create.


Iroquois County teens win Illinois 4-H Food Challenge

MONTICELLO — A group of Iroquois County teens won first place in the Illinois 4-H Food Challenge on May 29 at Monticello High School.

Armed with only a month of training, a table of surprise ingredients and basic kitchens, the four participating teams of youth from Iroquois, Champaign and Piatt counties had 40 minutes to create unique dishes from scratch.


FFA members attend training, win contests

MONTICELLO — Officers for Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School’s FFA chapter participated in leadership training at the 4-H Memorial Campground at Allerton Park near Monticello on Sept. 11.


Bennett, Ayers seek re-election to Parkland College board

CHAMPAIGN — Parkland College trustees James L. Ayers of Monticello and Thomas M. Bennett of Gibson City filed their respective nomination petitions seeking re-election in the April 9 consolidated election. 


GCMS golf roundup — 8/29/12

GIBSON CITY — Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley’s boys team picked up a victory in a triangular meet on Tuesday at Railside Golf Club.

The Falcons finished the outing with a team score of 184, beating out Heyworth (187) by three strokes for first place. Fisher shot a 219 for third place.

Wyatt Brownlee won the meet individually by shooting a 43.


Monticello abduction attempt not believed to be linked to Paxton's

MONTICELLO — Monticello police are investigating a possible abduction attempt Tuesday afternoon near Lincoln Elementary School. A similar event was reported in Paxton on Sunday, but at this time police do not think they are related.


Ford County jail to house inmates from Cook County

PAXTON — The Ford County jail will start housing inmates from Cook County, after the Ford County Board approved an intergovernmental agreement with its northerly neighbor Monday night.
