Board members to tour school addition in Paxton

PAXTON — Paxton-Buckley-Loda school board members and administrators will take a tour Wednesday evening of the 63,400-square-foot school building being built on Clara Peterson Elementary School’s east side.

Superintendent Cliff McClure said the tour will begin at 5 p.m. and will be led by representatives of Chicago-based Gilbane Inc., the construction-management firm overseeing the construction of the school addition.

A voter referendum in November 2016 authorized the PBL school district to issue $31.45 million in building bonds to be used to build the addition, renovate the existing Clara Peterson Elementary School building and tear down the district’s oldest school, PBL Eastlawn School.

The new addition is expected to be completed this August, and starting this fall it will house Eastlawn’s third- through fifth-graders. It is the biggest capital-improvement project PBL has undertaken since 2005, when a new junior high school was built.

After the tour, school board members will head to the board room in the unit office in Paxton for their regular monthly meeting, which begins at 6 p.m.

During the meeting, the board will hear a report on the construction project’s progress and vote on the awarding of a bid for the installation of technology at the school addition.
