Paxton Carnegie Library news (March 29, 2017)

At the Paxton Carnegie Library, we welcome spring with new books and movies, and many more reasons to stop by your local library. Browse the shelves for that new bestseller you’ve been hearing about. Don’t know what all the cool kids are reading? Then pick up the latest edition of BookPage. This publication has reviews and information about new releases, and you can pick up a free copy at the library any time. Carry your favorite books home in a new tote bag for just $2. They come in bright spring colors: green, purple, turquoise, orange and blue.

Our new website, www.paxtoncarnegielibrary.org, has many useful links. Click on the “Online Catalog,” and you can search your home library or all 500-plus libraries in the Illinois Heartland Library System. Place a hold on any item using your barcode, and we’ll let you know when your book or DVD is ready for pickup.  Find downloadable eBooks and audio books on our Media Mall, Cloud and One-Click Digital links. Those can go on your Kindle, Nook, computer or iPhone, for free. For magazines, try Zinio. Once you download a magazine, it is yours to keep, and it’s also free. Other links on the website will help you look for a job on Career Transitions, access Illinois Legal Aid and browse through Paxton yearbooks from 1909 through 2014.

Your library provides four public-access computers. Printing from the computers is just 10 cents for black and white and 25 cents for color. There is also free Wi-Fi for your laptop or iPhone here. With the microfilm reader, patrons can read the Paxton Record, going back to 1865, and print or email articles. For more information on accessing the microfilm collection, send an email to paxtonhistory@gmail.com.

On Thursday, April 6, author Christopher Pender will present an excerpt reading of “The Phoenix # 1: Of Blood and Fate,” from 7 to 8 p.m. The public is invited.
Our children’s programming is still going strong at the library, with Preschool Story Hour every Thursday at 10 a.m., and Lego Club on the last Monday of each month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Is there programming you would like to see at your library? Let us know!

Stop in and see your friends at the Paxton Carnegie Library, 254 S. Market St. in Paxton, Monday through Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Look for us on Facebook, too!
