Onarga Theater to reopen

ONARGA (AP) — Fundraisers have brought in enough money to save a one-screen movie theater in the small Illinois village of Onarga.

Randy and Cheryl Lizzio tell The Daily Journal in Kankakee that they’ve ordered a new digital projection system for the Onarga Theater. Onarga is a village of about 1,300 people 80 miles south of Chicago in Iroquois County.

The Lizzios have struggled to save the more than 75-year-old theater. But Monday they said first-run movies will return to the 205-seat movie house.
Cheryl Lizzio says they hope to have a children’s movie open for Thanksgiving weekend.
