Gibson City using new app to promote local businesses

GIBSON CITY — The City of Gibson has published a free Gibson City app that is available for download on smart phones.   To access the app, people can  search for “Gibson City” in their app store.

Once the app is downloaded, people can register as a user of the app. Doing so will qualify the app user for a drawing on Saturday, Nov. 25, that will award Gibson Bucks gift certificates.

To be given away through the drawing are one $100 prize, one $50 prize and a pair of $25 prizes of Gibson Bucks.

The City of Gibson is using the drawing as a way to promote  Small Business Saturday in Gibson City this year. The city is also encouraging local business owners to do some sort of a promotion/drawing/giveaway in their own business. Businesses that do so can send the details of their promotions via email to Susie Tongate (susie.tongate@gibsoncityillinois.com), who will put together a list of all of those incentives or sales on the Gibson City app under the “sales and deals” tab.

“It would be great to have a full list of businesses offering a reason for shoppers to come to Gibson City to make holiday purchases,” Tongate said. “We will be strongly advertising our new app around town and at the Lighted Parade (on Saturday, Nov. 18), so this would be a good way to do your first advertising on the app for free.”
