Cause of Gibson City fire remains undetermined

GIBSON CITY — The cause of a fire Friday that heavily damaged a Gibson City home remains undetermined but appears accidental, the city’s fire chief said Tuesday.

Gibson City Fire Chief Bruce Kallal said an investigator for the state fire marshal’s office visited the scene of the fire at 309 E. 11th St. on Monday. The investigator was unable to determine the fire’s cause but found no suspicion of foul play, Kallal said.

The fire caused an estimated $35,000 in damage to the one-story home, Kallal said. There was fire damage in the kitchen area, porch and attic of the home, and there was also smoke and water damage throughout, Kallal said.
