Cyberhacking of Iroquois County computer network under investigation

WATSEKA — The Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office released the following list of recent activity:

— The attempted cyberhacking of the Iroquois County computer network is under investigation by the sheriff’s office and state’s attorney’s office. The attempted hacking concerned Iroquois County online bank accounts and the attempted transfer of county funds. Security measures set up by Iroquois County and the bank institutions prevented the hacking and transfer from being successful. At this time, additional security measures are being put into place. No county funds were lost during the attempt. The sheriff’s office has contacted the FBI in regards to its ongoing investigation.

— Iroquois County sheriff’s deputies investigated an incident at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 10 involving a small aircraft that made an emergency landing south of Watseka on County Road 2200 East, south of U.S. 52. The aircraft, described as a Long EZ expirimental plane, was piloted by Matt Kwiatkowski, 34, of Romeoville. He told deputies that he had taken off from the Kankakee airport and was flying in a southeast direction when the plane started to experience engine trouble. He turned back and north and attempted to return to the Kankakee airport when he decided he needed to attempt an emergency landing. Kwiatkowski, who was the only person in the aircraft, was able to land the aircraft on 2200 East, and there was no structural damage done to the plane. The plane was towed to the Kankakee Area Airport.

— Daniel M. Tiffany, 36, of Watseka, was arrested Aug. 7 on an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant for a parole violation. He was taken to the county jail, then transferred to the DOC.

— Alisa E. Stanis, 24, of Sheldon, was arrested Aug. 8 for battery and criminal damage to property.

— Brittany Knight, 21, of Piper City, was arrested Aug. 11 by Gilman police on an Iroquois County warrant for failure to appear in court for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.
