Paxton Police Blotter (Aug. 15, 2012)

PAXTON — The Paxton Police Department released the following list of recent activity:

Complaints reported
— A hit-and-run accident was reported at 7:34 a.m. Aug. 6 at the intersection of Patton and Market streets. A witness reported that a green Ford car ran over the stop sign in the island and then proceeded to drive south before stopping to check on his car at the True Value hardware store. The person then drove toward Interstate 57. The stop sign is owned by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Paxton police at 379-4315 or Ford County Crimestoppers at 784-4173. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

— A solar pool cover was reported stolen from 1044 Roselawn Drive at 5:05 p.m. Aug. 7. Karna K. Normile, 72, who lives at the address, told police the cover was blue and valued at about $70. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Paxton police at 379-4315 or Ford County Crimestoppers at 784-4173.

— Two vehicles were scratched using a sharp object, possibly a key, as they were parked at 327 E. Orleans St. A 1999 Dodge Ram owned by Gabriel Burgess, 33, who lives at the address, was found damaged on Aug. 3. A 2000 Mitsubishi owned by Tara L. Caspers, 25, also of that address, was found damaged the following day. The cost of repair was not immediately known. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Paxton police at 379-4315 or Ford County Crimestoppers at 784-4173.

Traffic accidents
— No injuries were reported when a car backed out of a parking space and struck a passing vehicle downtown on Aug. 6. Police responded to the accident at 3:05 p.m. in the 200 block of North Market Street. Barbara L. Parker, 66, of Loda, was backing her 2003 Chevrolet Impala out of a parking space when it struck a southbound 2011 Buick driven by Marliss M. Swan, 71, of Paxton, causing more than $1,500 in damage. No tickets were issued.

Arrests
— Timothy B. VanValkenburg, 33, of 137 W. Oak St., Paxton, was arrested for domestic battery at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 7 for allegedly choking a female.

— Daniel L. McCormick, 35, of rural Rantoul, was arrested for a probation violation at 11:22 p.m. Aug. 4. McCormick was found by police in an alley between Fulton and Summer streets, and he appeared to be intoxicated, in violation of his probation.

Traffic tickets
— Kenneth L. Kupferschmid, 50, of rural Paxton, was ticketed for speeding (47 mph in a 30-mph zone) during a traffic stop at 1:31 a.m. Aug. 11 at the intersection of Pells and Fall streets.

— Phyllis A. Tiberio, 51, of Algonquin, was ticketed for speeding (83 mph in a 65-mph zone) during a traffic stop at 9:05 a.m. Aug. 8 at mile post 258 on Interstate 57, as Paxton police were working with Illinois State Police to perform a special traffic detail.

— Jerome S. Burks, 21, of 1010 S. Washington St., Apt. 3, Paxton, was ticketed for driving on a suspended license during a traffic stop at 10:17 a.m. Aug. 7 at the intersection of Center and Vermilion streets.

— Amy A. Kesler, 45, of Rantoul, was ticketed for operating an uninsured vehicle during a traffic stop at 12:51 a.m. Aug. 6 at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Green Street.

— Michael S. Parker, 48, of Buckley, was ticketed for driving on a suspended license during a traffic stop at 12:37 a.m. Aug. 2 at the intersection of U.S. 45 and Ford County Road 550 North.

— Candis M. Poorman-Stein of Tucson, Ariz., was ticketed for speeding (99 mph in a 65-mph zone) at 9:56 a.m. Aug. 8 on Interstate 57 near mile post 261.
