Man arrested for DUI after police find him asleep behind wheel on I-57

PAXTON — State police arrested an Indiana man for drunken driving last weekend after a trooper found him asleep behind the wheel of a pickup truck parked in the center median of Interstate 57.

Brad W. Graves, 40, of Shererville, Ind., was found behind the wheel of his Chevrolet pickup truck at 3:04 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, after a state trooper  noticed the vehicle in the center grassy median near milepost 263, about 2 miles north of Paxton in Ford County, according to a news release from District 21 Illinois State Police.

The trooper had to wake up Graves, the release said.

The trooper made observations that led him to believe Graves was under the influence of alcohol, the release said.   After a roadside investigation and field sobriety tests, Graves was taken into custody for driving under the influence and other traffic offenses including operating an uninsured vehicle, improper lane usage and the illegal transportation of alcohol.

Graves was transported to the Ford County Jail.
