Rantoul man gets 20 years in prison for sexual assault of child

PAXTON — A Rantoul man was sentenced this week to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to two Class X felonies for repeatedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl  over a three-month span.

Carl J. Winebrenner, 38, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal sexual assault on Monday in Ford County Circuit Court and was sentenced by Judge Steve Pacey to 10 years in the Department of Corrections for each count.

Winebrenner will be required to serve each 10-year term consecutively and complete at least 85 percent of his sentence, Ford County State’s Attorney Matt Fitton said.

He will receive credit for 117 days already served at the Ford County Jail, where he remained Friday awaiting transfer to the DOC.

In exchange for his plea, eight counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, also a Class X felony, were dismissed.

Winebrenner, whose last known address was in the 1300 block of Juniper Street in Rantoul, was charged Oct. 4 for committing sexual acts with a girl, now 13, on eight separate occasions between June 1 and Aug. 31.
