Fire destroys home in Rankin

RANKIN — A home in Rankin was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning.

Sixteen firefighters from the Rankin Fire Protection District responded to the fire at 12:30 a.m. at 417 E. Fourth Ave., according to Fire Chief Shane Diskin.

“The fire was through the roof when we got on scene,” Diskin said.

No one was inside the home at the time, and no injuries were reported, Diskin said.

The one-and-a-half-story home was “a total loss,” Diskin said.

“The roof collapsed after we started putting water on the fire, and it made it hard for us to get inside to do much interior work,” Diskin said. “So we had to do a lot of the firefighting from the outside.”

The cause remains undetermined, Diskin said, adding that no fire investigator was called because the home was not insured and nobody was hurt.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 4 a.m.
