PAXTON — Student registration for all grades in the Paxton-Buckley-Loda School District will be held Monday, Aug. 6, from noon to 7 p.m. in the Paxton-Buckley-Loda-Junior High School commons area.
Additional student registration dates for high school students only will be offered Tuesday, Aug. 7, and Wednesday, Aug. 8,, from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-3 p.m. both days at Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School. New high school students in the district should register Aug. 8.
Registration fees
The student registration fee is $80 for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and $115 for students in grades six through 12. The district will be accepting Discover, VISA and Mastercard credit cards to pay for registration and lunch fees.
Driver’s ed/AP fees
All students enrolling in drivers’ education at PBL High School will be required to pay a one-time fee of $150, and students enrolling in Advanced Placement courses will be required to pay a fee of $50 per course. A “waiver of fees” application will be available at registration dates or at www.pblunit10.com.
Athletic waivers/insurance
High school students wishing to participate in footballmust sign a waiver or purchase football insurance with the district contributing $100 toward the total cost of $205. In addition, junior high and high school students wishing to participate on an athletic teammust sign a waiver or purchase school insurance and have a sports physical. Athletic waivers and school insurance information will be available at registration dates or at www.pblunit10.com.
Parents are advised that they may need to write more than one check for different purposes during student registration.
Freshman orientation
PBL High School freshman orientation will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16. Additional information will be handed out during student registration.
First day of school
The first day of student attendance will be Monday, Aug. 20. The district will dismiss early on the first day, with Clara Peterson Elementary School and PBL Eastlawn School dismissing at 2:20 p.m., PBL High School dismissing at 2:25 p.m. and PBL Junior High dismissing at 2:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be served on Aug. 20.
Lunch/breakfast prices
Lunch prices for students in kindergarten through fifth grade will be $1.70, and prices for grades six through 12 will be $2.20.
Breakfast prices for students in kindergarten through eighth grade will be $1.25.
Student lunches may be purchased on a daily basis or parents may credit student lunch accounts at registration for future purchases. Parents/guardians may also purchase lunch and breakfast utilizing a credit card through the district’s RevTrak payment system by utilizing the family-access portal of Skyward.
Free and reduced lunch applications will be available during registration dates and online at www.pblunit10.com.
School physicals
All incoming pre-K, kindergarten, sixth-grade and ninth-grade students are required by law to have a school physical prior to starting the school year. This includes up-to-date immunizations recorded on the physical form. It is also requires that the parent portion of the physical form is completed and signed by a parent (not the student).
In addition to the physical, incoming kindergarten, second-grade and sixth-grade students are required to have a dental examination.
Kindergarten students are also required to have an eye exam (to be done by an ophthalmologist or optometrist) to be on file by Monday, Aug. 27.
Those students not in compliance by having the required exams completed and submitted to the school office prior to Aug. 27 will be excluded from school until all exams and immunizations are completed. A signed note from the physician, dentist, or the ophthalmologist office with the date of the scheduled appointment will be accepted as temporary compliance until the appointment date.
Sports tryouts/practices
The following junior high sports will have tryouts or their first practices on the dates that follow:
Baseball — Tryouts on July 30-31.
Softball — Tryouts on July 25.
Cross country — First practice on Aug. 6.
The following high school sports will have tryouts or their first practices on the dates that follow:
Volleyball — Tryouts on Aug. 8-10.
Cross country — First practice on Aug. 8.
Football — First practice on Aug. 8.
Cheerleading — First practice on Aug. 8.

Pork Chop Kickoff
The PBL Booster Club’s annual Pork Chop Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, in the PBL Junior High School commons area, with a volleyball scrimmage beginning at 5 p.m. and a football scrimmage beginning at 7 p.m.
All fall high school athletic teams and the marching band will be introduced at the event.
