Student registration set for Aug. 6 at GCMS

GIBSON CITY — The Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley school district will offer registration for all students at their respective schools starting Monday, Aug. 6.

Registration will be offered from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 6. Kindergarten and early childhood teachers will be present from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to meet and greet their new students.  Those families unable to register on Aug. 6 are asked to call the school to make arrangements to register at a later date.

Also, registration for students new to the district will be done by appointment starting Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the respective school. Appointments can be made by calling the school offices after Aug. 1. Phone numbers for each building are:  GCMS Elementary School (784-4278), GCMS Middle School (784-8731) and GCMS High School (784-4292).

Anyone interested in being a parent volunteer to work at elementary/middle school registration is asked to contact PTA President Sarah Zumwalt at 784-8016.

The registration fee is $50.  Parents unable to pay the fee should fill out a “free/reduced lunch” form and a fee-waiver request.

Breakfast is offered at the elementary and middle school buildings at a cost of $1.50.  Lunch prices are $2.25 for students in grades kindergarten through five and $2.50 for students in grades six through 12. Extra milk is $.35 per carton for all students, including those students who qualify for free and reduced lunches.  Meal prepayments for breakfast/lunch accounts will be accepted at registration.

Physical education uniforms are required for all students in grades six through 12. The uniform must consist of black gym shorts (either plain or including the school logo), white or red T-shirt (plain, with the GCMS logo, or GCMS sports T-shirts are all acceptable), white socks and tennis shoes.  The student’s name must be fixed somewhere on the shorts and T-shirts for identification purposes, with a permanent marker, embroidered, or included in printing.

A representative from the transportation service company will be available at the elementary school to answer any questions regarding bus routes.

The first day of student attendance will be a half-day on Monday, Aug. 20, from 8:15 to 11:40 a.m.

The first full day of school will be Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Freshman transition day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13. This will be followed by the Back to School Bash for all high school students, which runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the high school.
