PBL's math team places 2nd at regional competition

CHAMPAIGN — Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School’s math team placed second overall at its regional competition Saturday at Parkland College.

The team had regional champions in a number of contests, all of whom will advance to the state competition. Advancing were:

— The geometry team of Dalton Cowan, Elizabeth Landini, Tanner Wood, Lydia Blum, Emily Garney and Brianna Vasquez. The team placed first.

— The calculator team of Kayla Cowan, Ali Hofer, Grant Iverson, Dalton Cowan and Devin Bruens. The team placed first.

— The freshman/sophomore two-person team of Dalton Cowan and Jonah Wilson. The team placed first.

Placing second were the Algebra 1 team, the Algebra 2 team, the precalculus team, the junior/senior eight-person team, and the orals team.

Individuals earning honors were: Dalton Cowan, who placed first in geometry; Josiah Martin, who placed third in Algebra 1 and will also advance to state; Elizabeth Landini, who placed third in geometry; and Tanner Wood and Lydia Blum, who earned Parkland medals in Geometry.
